Already installed? This update arrives on its own.

New

  • Fonts: 14 free fonts for titles and captions, from clean sans to bold display, serif, handwritten and mono. Each one previews in its own face.
  • Templates: 19 starters (hook titles, lower thirds, chapter and end cards, quote cards, a countdown, punch zoom cuts, caption styles). Save your own, share them as files, and browse community templates from GitHub.
  • Speed ramps: Montage, Hero, Bullet, Jump cut, Flash in and Flash out, plus a curve you can draw yourself. Keyframes get smooth custom easing too.
  • Captions offer: bring in a clip with talking and OpenRoll asks if you want captions. One click, or turn it off in Settings.

Faster

  • Much less work while paused: about 5% CPU on a busy timeline instead of 30%.
  • Busy timelines export faster, and editing during playback no longer restarts the sound.
  • Captions are made about twice as fast, and background removal and upscaling are quicker.
  • The download is about a quarter smaller.

Fixed

  • Hebrew and Arabic titles keep their word order, and long words or text without spaces wrap instead of running off the frame.
  • Captions can be moved and resized in the viewer.
  • Read aloud (text to speech) works in the installed app.
  • Projects with damaged or unusual data open repaired instead of failing later, and an image clip on an audio track no longer freezes the app.
  • Importing ProRes, MKV and similar files works on Windows with the smaller download, and camera MOV files with a timecode track import everywhere.
  • Many smaller fixes to caption splitting, voiceover, safety checks and the AI connection.

First launch

If your computer shows a popup the first time you open OpenRoll, that's only because the app isn't code signed yet. The setup command above skips it. All of the code is public, and every file below is listed with its checksum in SHA256SUMS.txt.
