I am a little confused to be honest. Are you trying to install Node.js via the MSI or are you trying to install a package via npm after installing node?

@moku92 thanks for reporting. I guess there are two issues here - one with Node.js installer (cannot create shortcut) and one with angular-cli (npm install failed).

For the Node installer, it would be helpful if you would provide more details about your OS (version, etc.) and an installation log. You can generate one by executing in command prompt:
msiexec /i <filename>.msi /l*v InstallLog.txt

For the angular-cli - this should be reported in angular-cli issue tracker.

@bzoz Thanks!!.. You identified the issue correctly. While installing npm using the msi, it was failing to create the shortcut and later when I tried to install packages using angular-cli, that was failing too.
However, this issue got resolved after I updated my windows to the latest.
Looks like it was a windows issue.
