Stew & I had thrown together some of the "Routine Tasks" and common use cases, but I lost them. Suggestions welcome!

we also discussed adding a footer with Last modified: <date> and, where appropriate, a Code reference link to source code, so that if the docs rot, it would be possible to find up-to-date info in the code comments
