An introduction, presentation, and demonstration of quantum computer music. From the blurb:
Not long ago, quantum computers belonged to the realm of science fiction. Now, in 2025, real machines are harnessing the strange properties of quantum mechanics to compute in ways fundamentally different from traditional computers. Echoing the 20th-century pioneers who used early classical machines to explore new musical frontiers, a growing number of musicians are now turning to these early-stage quantum computers to rethink how they create. Until recently, the lack of accessible, user-friendly tools kept quantum music largely confined to academic research. But a new wave of tools is emerging—bringing quantum computer music out of the lab and into the hands of artists.
Join us as we explore the fundamentals of this radical new paradigm and discover how you can apply them in your own creative work. Peter Thomas—an artist, researcher, and software developer based in the UK—will lead a workshop introducing Zen, a live coding environment for designing and sonifying quantum algorithms.
Speaker: Dr Peter Thomas
Dr Peter Thomas is an artist, researcher, and software developer based in Dartmoor, UK. Under the moniker Cephas Teom, he has composed music for television and film, released a range of albums and EPs, and performed at renowned events including the Manchester International Festival and Berlin’s CTM Festival. He is the co-founder of Metr Music, an independent label launched with South London artist Kams, and is co-director of Lunar, a software development company headquartered in Bristol.
Peter’s recent research has bridged emerging quantum technologies with creative practice. His work includes the development of innovative tools designed to make quantum computing accessible to musicians and artists.
