VSCode connection to IBM i server

Hi, has anyone faced the same issue to log in to an IBM i server via VSCode today? The connection seems to have stopped at "Start Maperpire", have I done anything wrong?

This would mean starting Mapepire hangs the connection process. It's trying to start but doesn't respond.
Check these parameters in the connection settings:

Especially the secure SQL connection. It may need to be turned on if your LPAR doesn't allow unsecure connection; and it needs to be turned off if the LPAR is not configured to allow secured connections.

Hi, thank you for your quick response. I think the LPAR is not configured to allow secure connections, but anyway, I tried turning on and off both settings, and I'm still not able to connect to the server. I was able to connect to the same server on the latest Friday, very weird...

The Java command used to start Mapepire is this one, by default:

QIBM_JAVA_STDIO_CONVERT=N QIBM_PASE_DESCRIPTOR_STDIO=B QIBM_USE_DESCRIPTOR_STDIO=Y QIBM_MULTI_THREADED=Y exec java -Dos400.stdio.convert=N -jar ~/.vscode/mapepire-server-2.3.5.jar --single

You can try to run it from a PASE shell to see if it start or not.

Also, once it's stuck, do you have anything under the Code for IBM i output

or the VS Code develmopper console?

Today I have the same problem... that's what bought me here :)

I went into connection setting and selected my JAVA ENGINE (rather than leaving it as DEFAULT) and it now connects OK.

I found it has stopped at the "Starting Mapepire" with the command on the image when I used the latest version of Code for IBM i. I used that command and process on IBM i, and found the mapepire server cannot be started with garbled output. After investigation, we found that Code for IBM i starts Mapepire using:

QIBM_JAVA_STDIO_CONVERT=N
-Dos400.stdio.convert=N

When Mapepire is started this way, it produces garbled/corrupted stdout output, and the connection never completes.

However, when we manually start Mapepire with:

QIBM_JAVA_STDIO_CONVERT=Y
-Dos400.stdio.convert=Y

Mapepire starts normally, and the output is readable.

Does anyone know whether there is any setting in Code for IBM i to override these values, or if this behavior can be changed in a future release?
