GitHub Copilot Chat fails to access repositories on github.com with generic error, no permission prompt #171165

Yeah, I think I know what’s going on here. Copilot Chat can’t access your repos because, even though the app shows up in your authorized apps, it hasn’t actually been installed on your account. That’s why the permission prompt never appears and every repo-related command fails. |

Hi! It seems the issue is related to Copilot Chat not being properly installed or authorized for your account. A few points to note: Copilot Chat App Installation: Even if the app shows as authorized, it must be installed on your account or organization to access your repositories. Marketplace Confusion: The main Copilot Chat app isn’t listed like extensions or Actions. You usually enable it directly via GitHub.com under Settings → Copilot. Permission Prompt: If the prompt never appears, it indicates the backend hasn’t linked your account to the Copilot Chat app. Next Steps: Contact GitHub Support directly with your account info. They can check backend logs and complete the installation link for your account. |

Hello, I am unable to use Copilot Chat on github.com to access any of my repositories (e.g., DuVyn/FitTrack).
Every time I make a request that requires repository access, it immediately fails with the generic error message: "I'm sorry but there was an error. Please try again."
The expected permission prompt to grant access never appears.
We have already tried the following troubleshooting steps without success: 1. Checked "Authorized GitHub Apps": "Copilot Chat App" is authorized, but its configuration page says "Copilot Chat App has not been installed on any accounts you have access to." 2. Checked "Installed GitHub Apps": This section is empty. There is no "Copilot" app installed. 3. Attempted to install the "Copilot" app from the GitHub Marketplace. However, the search results are confusing and do not seem to offer the main application for installation, only extensions and Actions. 4. Attempting to trigger the permission prompt by issuing a direct command in the chat (e.g., "summarize the README") consistently fails with the same generic error.
This issue seems to be a deeper problem with my account's integration with the Copilot application, which cannot be resolved through standard UI settings.
Could you please investigate the backend logs for my account (DuVyn) to resolve this issue?
