Any news regarding Copy-Paste image understanding such as Windsurf and Cursor? #180128

Yeah, Windsurf and Cursor currently support multimodal input, so they can interpret images directly in chat. GitHub Copilot in VS Code is still mostly text-only — it doesn’t have public image-reading support yet. As of now, GitHub hasn’t announced a timeline or roadmap entry for this feature, so we’ll probably have to wait until Copilot Chat gets official multimodal support. The integration would require updates to both the Copilot API and VS Code extensions, so it’s not something we can implement manually. For now, the closest workaround is attaching images to GitHub issues/discussions or putting them in the repo, then referencing them in chat — but yeah, definitely not as smooth as copy-paste. I’d recommend adding feedback here (or upvoting similar requests) so it lands on the team’s radar — that’s how Windsurf/Cursor ended up prioritizing it too. Hope it arrives soon — it’d be super useful! |

Hello,
In Windsurf and Cursor, I like to use image copy-pasting to support the explanations I give in the chat.
In GitHub Copilot in VS Code, it can't read the image.
When will this feature be available like the others?
I've already written about this, do you have any idea how to implement it?
Thanks
