It serves as a "Single Source of Truth." You can track real-time progress through Pull Requests (features being built) and Issues (tasks and bugs) without needing to ask for status updates. It's the best way to see bottlenecks and manage roadmaps right where the code lives.

What to follow:

Awesome Lists: Look for Awesome-Product-Management. I also maintain my own Awesome list to keep resources organized.
Topics: Follow #first-timers-only or #good-first-issue to find beginner-friendly projects.

Recommended Organizations:

FreeCodeCamp: One of the most welcoming communities. Their repositories are a masterclass in how to organize massive open-source projects.
First Contributions: This is a "playground" project specifically designed for your very first Pull Request. It's a rite of passage for everyone on GitHub!

• Explore beginner-friendly repositories: Look for projects tagged with “good first issue” or “beginner-friendly.” Even just reading issues and discussions will teach you how teams think and collaborate.

• Follow real-world products: Find repos of tools you already use and check how they handle feature requests, bugs, and releases. This directly connects to product management workflows.
  Learn basic Git + GitHub workflows: Understanding pull requests, branching, and version control will give you immediate clarity on how development cycles actually work.

• Watch discussions, not just code: As a PM, the conversations (issues, feature debates, roadmap discussions) are often more valuable than the code itself.

@sanath-kumar-s I want to stay in product long-term. Gaining more technical knowledge will help me communicate more effectively with our dev team, as you mentioned.

I manage a large B2B2C marketplace app by myself, and, it's extremely complex. In a scaling environment, we are finding that our infrastructure and code is starting to break and understanding technical challenges will help me communicate better with stakeholders.
