Hi everyone,

I'm planning to switch from Windows to Mac for my work as a Data Engineer. I am torn between two options with similar budgets:

1. MacBook Air (M3/M4) - 16GB RAM / 512GB SSD
2. MacBook Pro (M2) - 16GB RAM / 512GB SSD
3. MacBook Pro (M1) Pro - 16GB RAM / 512GB SSD

My Workload:

• Tools: Docker (PostgreSQL, Airflow), etc.
• Environment: Heavy multitasking with many browser tabs and communication tools (Slack/Zoom).
• Usage: Mix of local development and remote work (WFA).

Key Concerns:

• Thermals: Does the fanless MacBook Air struggle with thermal throttling during long ETL runs or Docker usage?
• Performance: Is the newer M3/M4 chip efficiency better than the M2 Pro's sustained performance for DE tasks?
• Longevity: Is 16GB RAM sufficient for the next 3-4 years in a Data Engineering stack?

I'd love to hear from fellow Data Engineers on which model provides the best balance of performance and portability.
