Issue Report: Missing Contributions on GitHub Profile Graph for Private Repositories

Problem Description

Commits are being successfully pushed to private repositories, verified in repository history with correct author email, and deployed to production. However, these commits are not appearing on the contribution graph.

Details

Date: June 2, 2026

Repositories Affected: 2 private repositories

Commits Made: 3 total commits

• Repository 1: 2 commits
• Repository 2: 1 commit

Email Verification: All commits use the same email address linked to the GitHub account (verified via git config)

Git Configuration:

git config user.email = [email-linked-to-account] git config user.name = [account-username]

Verification Evidence

✅ All commits exist in repository history
✅ All commits authored with email address linked to account
✅ All commits made to default branch (main)
✅ All commits deployed to production
✅ Account email is verified and primary

What Happens

1. Developer makes commits and pushes to private repository
2. Commits appear in repository history immediately
3. Git log shows correct author and email
4. Code is deployed successfully
5. BUT: Contribution graph shows only partial count (1 instead of 3)
6. Waited 24+ hours - still missing from graph

Expected Behavior

According to Profile Contributions Reference, commits should count as contributions if:

• Email is associated with account ✅
• In standalone repo (not fork) ✅
• In default or gh-pages branch ✅
• User is collaborator/owner ✅

All criteria are met, yet contributions not fully counted.

Questions for GitHub

1. Is there a known issue with private repository contribution syncing?
2. Do contributions across multiple private repos have different sync behavior?
3. Why do some commits count (1/3) while others don't, when all meet the same criteria?
4. Is the 24-hour sync guarantee still valid for private repos?

Impact

• Cannot reliably use contribution graph for accountability
• Production teams cannot verify developer activity
• Unreliable contribution tracking in private repo environments

Steps to Reproduce

1. Create 3 commits across 2 private repositories
2. Verify all commits with correct linked email
3. Push to default branch
4. Check contribution graph
5. Wait 24+ hours
6. Notice partial or missing contributions
