GitHub Student Developer Pack – Rejected 5 times, Croatia, University Algebra Bernays

Hi everyone,

I've been trying to get verified for the GitHub Student Developer Pack for a while now and I've been rejected 5 times already. I'm hoping someone here can help me figure out what I'm doing wrong or suggest a workaround.

My situation:

• GitHub username: @divkoo
• I'm a student in Croatia
• My university is University Algebra Bernays (previously known as Algebra University College / Algebra – it was recently renamed to University Algebra Bernays, so it's possible GitHub's system doesn't recognize the new name yet)

The problem:

Every time I submit, I get rejected. The main issues seem to be:

1. I cannot submit a PDF as proof of enrollment – the system only accepts images, and PDFs are not an option for me to upload.
2. When I photograph my student ID card, it keeps getting rejected as well, even though the card clearly shows my name and enrollment status.

I've tried submitting an enrollment confirmation letter and my student ID multiple times with no luck.

My questions:

• Is the recent rename of my university (to University Algebra Bernays) possibly causing issues with verification?
• What exact format/document does GitHub Education accept for Croatian students?
• Is there any manual review process or a way to escalate this?

Any help is appreciated – I've been going back and forth on this for a while and it's getting frustrating. Thanks!

Hi @divkoo,

You can try submitting tuition receipts that are written and stamped by your university (old university name) for the current year. Additionally, you can include your timetable or class schedule as proof of your active student status. Using these documents with the old university name might help bypass the system since they show you're an active student.

Five rejections is definitely frustrating, especially when you've already tried multiple forms of documentation.

The university rename could potentially be contributing to the issue, but none of us in the community can see the exact reason your application was rejected. GitHub Education's verification process looks at both the institution and the proof of current enrollment you provide.

A few things you may want to check:

• Make sure the document clearly shows your full name, the institution name, and a current academic date or term.
• If your student ID does not display a validity period or current enrollment status, it may not be sufficient on its own.
• If the system only accepts images, try converting your enrollment letter PDF into a high-resolution image (PNG or JPG) and upload that instead.
• If your university recently changed its name, ensure the document includes official university branding, stamps, signatures, or other indicators that connect it to the institution.

Since you've already been rejected multiple times, I would recommend contacting GitHub Education support directly and explaining:

• That you are enrolled at University Algebra Bernays.
• That the institution was recently renamed.
• That you have already submitted proof of enrollment several times.
• That you would like clarification on what specific requirement is not being met.

Unfortunately, community members cannot review applications or escalate them, but GitHub Education support should be able to provide more guidance than repeated resubmissions.

I think your GitHub account needs to be at least 24 hours old before applying.

Since you've already been rejected 5 times, I'd focus on the proof being submitted:

• Make sure the document clearly shows your name, the institution name, and evidence of current enrollment/current academic year.
• If your enrollment confirmation is a PDF, try converting the relevant page to a high-quality PNG/JPG and upload that.
• If your student ID doesn't show a current validity date, an enrollment verification letter or current transcript may work better.
• Double-check that the name on your GitHub account matches the name on your submitted documents.

At this point, I'd recommend contacting GitHub Education Support directly and asking for clarification on the specific reason for the repeated rejections, since the community can't see the internal review notes.
