Hi everyone,

Hello GitHub Education Team,

My name is Subham Nayak (Registration No. 2201109101), and I am a final-year B.Tech student in Computer Science and Engineering at Parala Maharaja Engineering College, Berhampur, Odisha, India.

I am applying for the GitHub Student Developer Pack and am facing an issue during the verification process. When I try to upload my supporting documents, the page automatically opens my device's front camera instead of providing an option to upload files from my device. Because of this, I am unable to submit my verification documents.

I am currently on an internship and staying at a location different from my college. As proof of enrollment, I am trying to upload my previous year's fee receipt, but I cannot proceed due to the upload issue.

Could someone please advise how I can upload my documents or complete the verification process?

GitHub has intentionally disabled the document upload option for most users to combat fraudulent applications, forcing a live camera feed instead. Because the automated system uses Optical Character Recognition (OCR), it often rejects blurry images captured by front-facing webcams.

The following workarounds resolve this camera loop and bypass the interface restrictions.

Method 1:

The Screen Scan Method (Recommended)

This is the easiest, policy-compliant workaround that does not require coding:

1. Open your official fee receipt or digital ID on a laptop, tablet, or external monitor.
2. Maximize the screen brightness and zoom in so your full name, college name, and the current academic date are fully visible and readable.
3. Access the GitHub verification page on your smartphone.
4. Point your smartphone's front camera directly at the laptop monitor to capture the document cleanly.

Method 2:

The Browser Developer Console Bypass

You can force the hidden file upload button to appear by modifying the page script directly in your browser:

1. Open the GitHub Education Benefits Application page on a desktop computer.

2. Press F12 (or right-click and select Inspect) to open the Developer Tools.

3. Navigate to the Console tab.

4. Paste the following line of JavaScript and press Enter:

   document.querySelector("#dev_pack_form_camera_required").value = 'false';

5. If the upload button does not instantly reveal itself, paste this second command to force-trigger the submission flow to look for files:

   document.querySelector('#js-developer-pack-application-submit-button').click();

6. A traditional "Choose File" or "Upload file" prompt should appear, letting you attach your fee receipt directly.

Method 3:

Block Camera to Force Fallback, use the browser's site settings for GitHub and explicitly change Camera permissions to "Block".
