Recently, the Command Palette preview feature changed so that the search box would be centered to the screen. This makes typing extremely annoying, as now, when the window changes in height, the input box jumps up and down depending on search results. The old behavior, where the box was just locked and resized downwards was better.

These changes need to be rolled back, it's unusable.

If you close the command palette with Escape it also sets the rest of the page to be inert and you need to refresh the page. Don't love that!

No unnecessary animation please, a feature like this needs to be snappy and predictable.

I agree with this. The previous behavior felt much better because the input stayed predictable.

I don’t mind the idea of adding a bit of visual polish here and I can see why a centered layout with smooth resizing might look nicer. But if that kind of eye candy is desired, I think the search box itself needs to remain fixed in place. Only the results area should resize (ideally with the transition animation applied there) so typing does not cause the input to jump around as the number of results changes.
