AI can generate entire applications from a prompt.

Why would a company still hire you?

What unique value would you bring?

hey @rohanbyale 👋. good question for discussion, but i'd actually push back on the premise a bit,,, "AI generates the whole app, so review wont be needed because it'll be perfect" assumes a kind of perfection that doesnt really exist in software, even hypothetically. heres why :

"perfect code" isnt really a thing, even for AI.
code isnt judged against some absolute correctness standard ,,,its judged against requirements,and requirements come from humans who often dont fully know what they want until they see it.an AI can generate technically flawless code that solves the wrong problem ,or solves the right problem in a way that conflicts with 50 other systems, business rules, legal constraints , or user expectations it has no visibility into. "perfect" implementation of a misunderstood requirement is still wrong.

someone has to own the outcome.
if an AI-generated app causes a data breach, financial loss, or harm, someone is accountable ,,, legally, contractually, ethically. that accountability cant be "the AI" ,,, companies, regulators, and courts need a human who understood the system well enough to have caught the issue, or to explain why it happened. this alone creates a permanent need for people who deeply understand whats being built, even if they didnt type every line.

the bottleneck shifts, it doesnt disappear.
historically every productivity leap in software (compilers, high-level languages, frameworks, cloud infra, low-code tools) made individual developers more valuable, not less ,, because the bottleneck moved from "can we write this code" to "do we know what to build, and can we trust it". AI generating code shifts the bottleneck again ,,,,towards specifying intent precisely, evaluating output critically, and integrating it into messy real-world systems. those skills dont automate just because code generation does.

what unique value looks like in your scenario.

• translating ambiguous business needs into precise specs,,, "make checkout faster" means very different things depending on context only a human stakeholder conversation reveals.
• judgment under uncertainty ,,, AI optimizes for the objective it's given. deciding which objective, and what tradeoffs matter (speed vs cost vs privacy vs maintainability) is a human judgment call shaped by values and context,
• system-level thinking across organizational boundaries ,,, real companies are messy, political, full of legacy systems and undocumented tribal knowledge. an AI generating "an app" in isolation doesnt navigate that.
• being the responsible party ,,, someone who can be asked "why did you build it this way" and give a reasoned answer, not just "the AI did it."

on "review wont be needed".
id flip this around ,,the more powerful and autonomous AI gets, the more review matters, not less,because the blast radius of an unreviewed mistake gets bigger. think about how flight has gotten dramatically safer over decades through automation ,,, yet pilots, mechanics, and regulators didnt disappear, their roles shifted toward oversight, edge cases, and accountability. software is heading the same direction. "perfect" autonomous systems still get audited, monitored, and held to account by humans, because the cost of being wrong at scale is too high to leave unchecked.

so in short ,,, the question "why hire a developer" might become "why hire someone who only writes code without understanding the bigger picture" ,,, that role probably does shrink. but "developer" as a profession has always meant more than typing syntax, and the parts that remain (judgment, accountability, context, communication) are exactly the parts AI struggles with most, even a very advanced one. curious what others think though❤️❤️❤️❤️

I agree. AI may generate most of the code, but understanding requirements, making trade-offs, ensuring security, and taking responsibility for outcomes will still require humans. The role of developers will evolve, not disappear.

I don't see my future value as writing every line of code manually. I see it as understanding problems deeply, designing solutions, verifying AI-generated code, and turning ideas into products that people actually use. AI will be a powerful tool, but companies will still need developers who can think critically, communicate clearly, and take responsibility for the final outcome. My goal is to become someone who can work alongside AI to build reliable and impactful software.

Exactly. Coding is becoming easier; thinking is not. AI can generate code, but developers are still needed to define problems, evaluate trade-offs, validate solutions, and take responsibility for the final product. The future isn't AI vs developers—it's developers who know how to use AI effectively.

Its okay to rely on AI for tasks that we're familiar with , If there comes a case that we're working on something unknown its more obvious that AI will make mistakes cuz it just doesnt know when to quit

Great question! Even as AI gets more capable, developers
bring value in ways AI can't fully replace:

1. Problem framing — AI solves what you tell it to, but
   knowing WHAT to build and WHY is a human skill

2. Context & judgment — understanding business needs,
   user psychology, and trade-offs

3. Accountability — someone needs to own the product,
   catch mistakes, and make decisions

4. Collaboration — working with non-technical teams,
   clients, and stakeholders

AI is a powerful tool, but tools still need skilled people
to use them effectively. The developers who thrive will be
those who use AI to multiply their output, not those who
compete against it.

Exactly. Code is only one part of software development. Understanding requirements, making trade-offs, validating results, and taking ownership are where developers create the most value. AI accelerates development, but human judgment remains the deciding factor.

by 2035 writing code from a prompt won't be the impressive part anymore. the valuable part will be knowing what should be built, what should not be built, and how to tell when the generated thing is quietly cursed.

a company would still hire me for the human parts around the code: understanding messy requirements, making tradeoffs, debugging weird production issues, caring about users, spotting security/performance problems, and taking responsibility when "the ai said it works" is not good enough.

ai can generate an app, but someone still has to know whether it solves the right problem, fits the business, scales without catching fire, and is safe to ship.

so my value would be creativity, taste, judgment, accountability, and the ability to turn vague chaos into reliable software.
