Hi everyone,

The university I selected has several campuses, and when I'm on my campus, GitHub tells me I'm too far from the school. Additionally, when I try to upload documents, it only tells me to activate my computer's camera, and as you can imagine, printing my documents to take a picture with my webcam is not the same as attaching them.

Two separate issues, both fixable:
Location rejection — GitHub Education uses your IP to verify location, not GPS. If your campus routes traffic through a central university network, your IP might geolocate to the main campus, not yours. Fix: connect to your university's VPN or WiFi (not a personal hotspot or home network) when submitting. If you're already on campus WiFi and it's still rejecting, email education@github.com — some satellite campuses genuinely aren't in their database and need manual whitelisting.
Document upload forcing camera — this is a known browser issue, mostly hits on Chrome. Try:

Firefox — it usually shows a proper file picker instead of camera-only
Or in Chrome: when the camera prompt appears, look for a small "Upload" or folder icon in the corner of that dialog — it's easy to miss
Mobile browser as a last resort — take the photo directly and submit from your phone

Don't print and photograph — that degrades quality and increases rejection chance. Upload the original PDF or a clean scan directly.

Hi! This is a common issue with GitHub Education verification. Here are some solutions:

1. Location Verification: GitHub uses your IP address for location verification. If you are on campus but connected to a VPN or different network, it may detect a different location. Try connecting to the campus WiFi directly.

2. Document Upload: For document upload, you can:

   • Take a photo of your student ID with your phone and upload it
   • Use a document scanning app to create a PDF
   • If your school has a digital student portal, download a verification letter

3. Multiple Campuses: If your university has multiple campuses, you may need to verify from the specific campus listed in your school records.

4. Contact Support: If none of these work, contact GitHub Education support at https://support.github.com with your student ID and enrollment verification.
