Hey! This is a very common gap — "Copilot claimed" on the Education portal and Copilot actually being active on your account are two separate things. Here's the exact sequence to fix it:

1. Manually activate Copilot from the settings page
Go directly to https://github.com/settings/copilot while signed in. If your education benefit is properly linked, you should see an option to enable Copilot for free under the Student Developer Pack — click that button explicitly. The Education portal claiming it does not auto-enable it on this page.

2. Check for a conflicting Free plan enrollment
If you were on Copilot Free before applying for the Student Pack, GitHub sometimes keeps you on that plan even after the benefit is claimed. At https://github.com/settings/copilot, look for a plan upgrade or switch option — selecting the student/Pro plan explicitly should move you off Free.

3. Confirm the benefit is tied to the right account
At https://education.github.com/benefits, verify that the GitHub account shown is the same one you're using for Copilot. If you have multiple GitHub accounts, the benefit may be claimed on a different one than where you're checking.

4. Wait up to 24 hours and hard-refresh
After completing the above, the plan page can take a few hours to reflect the change on GitHub's backend. Sign out, clear browser cache, sign back in, and revisit https://github.com/settings/copilot.

When it's working correctly, your plan should read Copilot Pro, not Free. The Education benefit gives you full Copilot Pro access, not just a free-tier upgrade.

If it still shows Free after all of this, open a ticket at https://support.github.com and include a screenshot of your Education benefits page showing "Copilot claimed." GitHub Support can manually sync the entitlement on their end. Hope this helps!
