Hi everyone,

So, I have copilot pro through student dev pack, I'm likely to use up all my free credits, does pro stay as I enter into my additional budget?

good question, and honestly the credits/ additional usage system is new enough that the docs arent always crystal clear on this ,,,but heres how it generally works :

your copilot pro subscription itself doesnt go away .
your copilot pro access(the subscription/plan tier you get through the student pack)is separate from the monthly included usage credits. running out of includedd credits doesnt downgrade or cancel your pro subscription,,you still have copilot pro.

what actually happens when credits run out.

• if you have no additional /pay-as-you-go budget set up,premium requests (the ones that consume credits ,,, typically advanced models in copilot chat/agent mode)will simply stop working or get blocked once your included monthly allotment is used up,until it resets the following month.
• basic code completions (the inline autocomplete) generallly arent metered the same way and should keep working regardless .
• if you do set up an additional usage budget with a payment method, then yes,,,,going over the free included credits starts billing you for the extra usage at whatever the per-request rate is, and copilot continues working seamlessly past the free tier,

so to directly answer "does pro stay as i enter additional budget",,,,,,,yes, copilot pro itself stays active either way. the only thing thats affected is whether premium/credit-consuming features continue working past your free monthly allowance ,and that depends entirely on whether you've configured an addditional usage budget with billing enabled.

if you want to avoid any surprise charges, just dont set up an additional budget ,,, copilot pro stays active,premium features just pause until next month's reset, with zero cost. check github.com/settings/billing -> AI usage to see your current allowance/usage.
