Hi everyone,

Hello,

I am a currently enrolled student at Shandong University in China.

My GitHub Education application keeps getting automatically rejected, and I would like some guidance.

I have already completed the following steps:

• Verified my school email address (mail.sdu.edu.cn)
• Enabled browser and operating system location access
• Disabled VPN and proxy services
• Updated my GitHub profile and billing information using my legal name
• Logged out and logged back in before reapplying

However, my application is still rejected.

The rejection message mentions:

• Location could not be verified
• My uploaded document does not appear to contain the complete school name
• My profile information may not match my academic affiliation

My student ID card displays the university name on the cover and my personal information on the inside page, so it is difficult to show both clearly during camera verification.

I am currently physically on campus in my university dormitory and not using a VPN.

Could anyone advise:

1. What type of document works best for verification?
2. Whether my school information may need updating?
3. Whether there is another recommended way to complete verification?

Because your Student ID and Personal Information are on Different pages! Just Make a Plastic Card and Edit your both Information in there! Then show it during camera verification! (I hope this may work)

From what you described, the main issue is probably the document format and how clearly it proves your current enrollment.

For GitHub Education verification, the best document is usually not a student ID card if the ID does not show everything on one visible page. A better option would be one of these:

• An official enrollment verification letter
• A current transcript
• A current class schedule
• A student certificate from the university portal

The document should clearly show your legal name, the complete university name, your current student status, and at least one current date or valid enrollment period. If your student ID has the university name on one side/page and your personal details on another, GitHub’s automated system may fail because it cannot verify both pieces of information in the same image.

For the location issue, try applying from your phone or laptop while connected to your campus Wi-Fi, with browser location permission enabled. Also make sure VPN, proxy, browser privacy extensions, and location spoofing tools are disabled. Sometimes trying a different browser or device helps.

For the profile mismatch issue, make sure your GitHub profile name, billing name, verified school email, and uploaded document name match as closely as possible. Avoid nicknames or different spellings.

If your school domain or institution details are not being recognized correctly, it may require GitHub Support or your school IT department to help. Community members cannot manually update GitHub Education verification records, so if you have already tried the above steps, I would recommend contacting GitHub Support and attaching a clear explanation plus a better proof-of-enrollment document.

Please ensure your verification document clearly shows the full “Shandong University” name in one frame (official enrollment letter is best). Also make sure your GitHub profile name exactly matches your ID.

For ID capture, try showing both your name and university name in a single clear, uncropped image, and use mobile data with GPS enabled (no VPN).
