Feature Request: Personal Copilot AI Credit dashboard and self-service budget controls for enterprise users

GitHub Copilot now supports AI Credit-based usage and admin-managed user-level budgets. However, enterprise users also need direct visibility and control over their own consumption.

As an individual developer, I should not have to wait for an administrator to tell me I am consuming too much, or suddenly discover that I have been blocked. I want to see my own usage in real time, understand what is driving it, and set my own personal guardrails before I create unexpected cost.

Problem

In enterprise environments, Copilot usage may draw from a shared company pool and may be governed by admin-defined budgets. This creates a gap for individual users:

• I may not know how many AI Credits I have consumed.
• I may not know which model, task, chat, code review, CLI session, or agentic workflow consumed the most credits.
• I may not know I am approaching a limit until an admin notification or hard block occurs.
• I cannot proactively set my own personal soft limit or alert threshold.
• I cannot make informed tradeoffs between model quality, task complexity, and cost.

This creates a poor user experience because cost governance becomes reactive and centralized, instead of transparent and self-managed.

Requested capability

Please provide every Copilot user, including enterprise-managed users, with a personal usage and budget experience:

1. Real-time or near-real-time personal AI Credit consumption
2. Monthly allowance, used credits, remaining credits, and projected end-of-month usage
3. Breakdown by model
4. Breakdown by Copilot surface, such as IDE chat, Copilot CLI, coding agent, Copilot code review, pull request summary, GitHub.com, etc.
5. Breakdown by session or task, especially for long-running agentic workflows
6. Personal soft budget, set by the user
7. User-defined alerts, for example at 50%, 75%, 90%, and 100%
8. Optional “ask before continuing” mode when a task is expected to exceed a user-defined threshold
9. Exportable personal usage history

Important distinction

This request is not just for admin dashboards or organization-level controls.

Admins still need enterprise governance, but individual users also need personal agency. A user should be able to manage their own consumption responsibly before an admin has to intervene.

Business value

This would help enterprise users:

• Avoid surprise blocks
• Learn which workflows are expensive
• Choose the right model for the right task
• Use agentic features more responsibly
• Reduce unnecessary escalation to admins
• Build trust in usage-based billing
• Improve adoption without creating cost anxiety

Example user story

As a developer using an enterprise Copilot license, I want to see my personal AI Credit usage in real time and set my own soft budget alerts, so that I can manage my consumption responsibly before I hit an admin-enforced limit or create unexpected cost.

Acceptance criteria

• I can open a personal Copilot usage dashboard from GitHub.com, VS Code, or Copilot CLI.
• I can see my current month AI Credit usage.
• I can see remaining allowance or budget, if applicable.
• I can see usage by model and Copilot surface.
• I can see which sessions or tasks consumed the most credits.
• I can configure personal alert thresholds.
• I can configure a personal soft stop or confirmation prompt.
• I receive a warning before starting a high-cost task.
• This works even when my Copilot license is enterprise-managed.
