Badges Not showing on profile

When I turn these contribution settings off I get the notification as shown in the image from gitHub.
I had forked 2-3 repo and made the PR which was merged please tell me if i should do anything else from my side!

actually looking at your own screenshot ,,,github already explains this directly. that blue banner says :
"you unlocked new achievements with private contributions! show them off by including private contributions in your profile"
so this isnt a bug ,,, its expected behavior tied specifically to how the "include private contributions on my profile" setting works :

• when that setting is off,,,github hides any achievement/ badge that was earned through activity it considers "private"(which can include contributions on privatee repos, or in some cases forked-repo prs depending on the repo's visibility),,, even though the badge technically exists on your account,
• when you turn it on ,,those badges become visible because youre now explicitly allowing private-repo-related activity to count toward your public profile display.

since you mentioned you forked and made a pr,,,,thats likely the key detail:

• if the fork itself was private, or if your activity tracking on that pr got bucketed under "private contribution" logic for anyy reason ,, the resulting badge would specifically require that toggle to be on to display, even though the original / upstream repo was public .

the actual fix for your case :
turn on "include private contributions on my profile" in settings ->profile,,,,based on your own screeenshot, that directly resolves it.the tradeoff is it also reveals contribution counts to private repos(not the code itself,,, just that activity happened)on your public contribution graph, which is worth knowing before enabling it .

this matches whats described right there in github's own banner ,,,not something that needs a support ticket🩷🩷🩷🩷 .

When I turn on the settings of "include private contribution on profile" the badges still doesn't show up on profile and all my forks are public and they're successfully merged too by the authors
Idk what else to do to get the badges if you have any information please help!

This is a common source of confusion. Here's what's happening:

The badges won't appear while those contribution settings are turned ON because GitHub is treating your profile as if the contributions are private. When you enable "Private contribution graph" or similar privacy settings, GitHub hides your public contribution activity from your profile display — including badges that are based on that activity.

Why turning them OFF shows the notification but still no badges:
Forking repos and merging PRs into the upstream repo actually don't count toward your own contribution graph. Forked repos are special — contributions made in forks only count toward the upstream repo's contributors, not your own profile badge milestones. This is by design.

What actually earns profile badges:

• Creating your own repos (not forks) and making commits
• Opening PRs on other people's repos (not your own forks)
• Reviewing PRs on other repos
• Issues you've opened and commented on
• Maintaining streaks (contributing consistently)

To get badges showing:

1. Keep the contribution privacy settings OFF (so GitHub can display your activity publicly)
2. Focus on contributions to non-fork repos — even small PRs to open source projects will count
3. Check your profile after a few days — badges update based on rolling time periods, not instantly

Hello thanks for the response!
But on the second point! When we do open source contribution we have to fork the file right? And then send them the PR? I'm still starting and learning open source contributions

your confusion makes total sense,,, let me clarify the fork workflow vs contribution counting specifically :
youre doing open source contributions correctly ,,,fork -> make changes->send PR to the original repo is exactly the right workflow for open source.thats how everyone does it. that part is fine .
the issue is specificallly about which badges you're trying to get:

• your profile shows repos like projectAI,comfyhotels, webathon,,, those are your own repos .
• the PRs you made from forks ,,, your merged PRs do qualify for the Pull Shark badge(2+ merged PRs = tier 1).looking at your situation you should alreadyy have this if 2-3 PRs were merged.
  why the badges still arent showing even with settings on:
  given your all-public forks setup ,,the "include private contributions" toggle shouldnt actuallly be required for your badges to show.if badges are still not appearing despite:
• all forks being public(RIGHT).
• PRs being merged(RIGHT) ,
• settings toggle on(RIGHT).
  then it might just be a processsing delay,,,,github badges dont always update instantly. check your profile at
  github.com/LateeshaNarnolia104?tab=achievements specifically. if pull shark(the merged PR badge)isnt showing there after 24 - 48hrs from when the prs were merged ,, that would be the actual thing worth reporting .

keep the settings the way they are(both toggles off=everything public,which is what you want as a student building a portfolio)and check the achievements tab tomorrow💙💙💙💙💙 .

explain the issue and attach screenshot showing

• the enabled achievement settings.
• profile page where achievements are missing.
• git hub username

Yo @LateeshaNarnolia104 — @Levi-o1o1 is right. A 404 on the achievements page means the backend is broken for your account, not just a settings delay.

Go to support.github.com and open a ticket. Use this exactly:

Subject: Achievements page returning 404 / Missing Pull Shark badge

Body:
"My achievements tab is giving a 404 error (github.com/LateeshaNarnolia104?tab=achievements). I have multiple merged PRs from public forks, but the Pull Shark badge isn't showing. My profile settings to show achievements are already enabled. Can you look into the backend bug?"

Attach the screenshots of your merged PRs and your settings. Since it's a 404, only GitHub support can fix it now. Good luck! 💙
