I've seen a few verification issues where the names looked identical at first glance but differed in small ways that affected automated verification. A few things you may want to double-check:
Since the rejection message specifically mentions the last name, it may help to verify whether the surname on the academic document is presented exactly the same way as in GitHub Billing Information. Could you clarify:
That information may help identify whether the issue is related to name matching or document type. |

After seeing the report card and the rejection message, I wonder if the issue may be how GitHub's verification system is parsing the first name and last name rather than the document itself. Your report card shows: KUSHAL REDDY MALLAMPATI Many systems would interpret that as:
Could you check whether your GitHub Billing Information uses exactly the same first-name/last-name split? Even if the full name matches visually, the verification system may compare the individual first-name and last-name fields separately. I also notice that the rejection includes a campus-location warning. Even if the name issue is resolved, GitHub may still require either successful location verification or documentation indicating remote/virtual attendance if it believes you are not near a campus location. Since the report card already shows the current academic year (2025–2026), it may also be worth trying a student ID card, bonafide certificate, or enrollment letter if your school can provide one. |

After looking at the rejection notice and the report card, I think there may be two separate issues affecting the application. The first is the name matching issue. On the report card, the name appears as: KUSHAL REDDY MALLAMPATI For many verification systems, that would typically be interpreted as:
If your GitHub Billing Information has the names split differently (for example, First Name = Kushal Reddy and Last Name = Mallampati, or another variation), the automated verification system may reject the application even though the full name looks identical to a human reviewer. The second issue is the location warning shown in the rejection notice. GitHub is specifically stating that it believes you are not near a campus location for the selected school. That means even if the name issue is resolved, the application may still require either:
One question: Could you share how your First Name and Last Name are entered in GitHub Billing Information (you can omit any sensitive details)? The exact field split may help identify whether the automated name comparison is failing. |

Hi everyone,
Title: Student Developer Pack Rejected Due to Name Verification Issue
Hello,
I am a student applying for the GitHub Student Developer Pack.
My application has been rejected multiple times with the message:
"Please ensure that your academic affiliation document contains your last name exactly as it appears in your GitHub billing information."
I have already:
The name on my academic document exactly matches the name on my GitHub profile and billing information.
Has anyone experienced a similar issue? If so, what document or steps helped resolve it?
Thank you.
