Unable to upload my academic documents – only webcam/selfie camera opens

Hi everyone,

Hello GitHub Education Team,

I am applying for the GitHub Student Developer Pack, but I am having trouble submitting my academic proof during the evidence capture step.

When I click Start Camera, I am never given an option to upload an existing image or PDF from my device.

Instead:

• On my Windows laptop using Google Chrome, it immediately opens my built-in webcam.
• On my Android phone using Google Chrome, it immediately opens the front (selfie) camera, not the rear camera.
• There is no option to switch to the rear camera or upload an existing image from my device.

If the rear camera opened on my phone, I could easily capture a clear photo of my academic documents. However, the selfie camera is not suitable for photographing documents, and the laptop webcam also cannot properly capture them.

In addition, many of my university documents, such as my tuition payment receipts and other academic records, are issued digitally. Since there is no upload option, I cannot submit these official digital documents for verification.

Could you please let me know:

1. Is there a way to upload an existing image or PDF instead of using the camera?
2. Is there a way to switch to the rear camera on mobile devices during verification?
3. How should students with digital-only academic documents complete the verification process?
