Hello everyone,

I'm a GitHub Student Developer Pack user, and I'm hoping to understand whether other students have experienced the same situation.

I redeemed the DigitalOcean benefit in May 2026. At that time, the benefit was presented as:

"Enjoy $200 in platform credit for 1 year."

I planned my learning projects and cloud infrastructure based on that understanding.

Recently, I received an email from DigitalOcean stating that they are ending their participation in the GitHub Student Developer Pack and that all GitHub Student Pack promotional credits will expire on July 31, 2026, even though I originally expected my credits to remain valid for one year.

DigitalOcean Support explained that they are winding down the program and that July 31, 2026 is now the end date for GitHub Student Pack credits.

I'm not posting this to criticize anyone. I'm trying to understand:

• Have other students received the same notification?
• Was this change communicated to all GitHub Student Pack users?
• Is the advertised "1 year" benefit being shortened for everyone because the partnership is ending?
• Can GitHub Education clarify whether this is the expected outcome for students who redeemed the benefit before the program ended?

I'm genuinely disappointed because I chose DigitalOcean for my student projects with the expectation of having one year to learn and build. I appreciate any clarification or experiences that others are willing to share.

Unfortunately this is a known issue when Student Pack partners leave the program early. The same thing happened before with Namecheap and others — the "1 year" terms get cut short when the partnership ends.
A few things to check/do:

• Check your DigitalOcean billing page — if the $200 was deposited as account credit (not just an expiring promo code), you may still be able to use it after July 31. Account credit typically stays even after promos end.
• Use the credits before July 31 — spin up what you need now, learn what you can, then snapshot/shut down. Better to get partial value than none.
• Contact DO support politely — some users have gotten extensions or a partial refund for the unused portion. Explain you signed up based on the "1 year" promise.
• Alternatives if you lose them — Oracle Cloud free tier ($300, no time limit), Hetzner, or Linode have good student-friendly options.
• This is worth flagging to GitHub Education too — if enough students complain, they may reconsider how partner departures are communicated.

Hi

Yesterday, I received an email confirming that my GitHub Education application had been approved. Thank you!

However, more than 24 hours have now passed, and I still don't seem to have access to GitHub Copilot or the other Student Developer Pack offers. I've tried accessing them through the links in the email and also checked my GitHub account, but they are still unavailable.

Could you please let me know if there is anything I need to do on my end, or if there is currently a delay or issue with activating these benefits?
