Currently, the Energy Dashboard automatically assigns colors to the entities listed under the "Individual devices" (Total usage) section. While the UI is clean, there is no way for users to manually define these colors.
The Problem
When monitoring multiple devices, the auto-assigned colors often don't match the "logic" of the device or the user's personal dashboard theme. For example, a "Heater" might be assigned a blue color by the system, while a "Fridge" might be assigned red, which feels counterintuitive.
Furthermore, when adding or removing devices, the color palette shifts, making it harder to identify specific appliances at a glance due to lack of visual consistency.
Proposed Solution
I suggest adding a color picker (or a hex code input field) within the Energy Dashboard configuration settings for each individual device. This would work similarly to how colors are handled in the standard History Graph or Sensor cards.
Key benefits:
Better Glanceability: Users can associate specific colors with specific categories (e.g., red for high-consumption appliances, green for eco-devices).
Visual Consistency: Colors remain static even if the order of devices changes.
Accessibility: Helps users with color vision deficiencies to choose high-contrast palettes that work for them
