I want MA to automatically turn on my smart speakers when I use them via the "Player - Power Control" setting.
Details
MA to maintain the "Player" in the list of available players even if it is offline. E.g. only when this this "Auto PowerOn" has turned off the speaker .
When the user is requesting playback to such an powered off speaker, MA displays a waiting signal, turns on the smart speaker via the already implemented "Power Control" feature, waits for the device to become available, and then starts streaming as requested.
Add a "Auto power off" feature that cuts the power after e.g. 1h of idle disuse of the smart speaker.
Usecase
I got a 6 Sonos speakers of different ages and only use them for playback. Each of them consumes 3-6 watts on idle - about 30 Watts just for idle in my current setup. As I listen to music maybe 1-2 times a day for a couple of hours (e.g. 4h a day), I would like power down the speakers using smart plug switches that simply cut the power to the smart speakers when I am not using them.
My business case is with 30Wh on 20h idle per day and a kWh price in Germany of about 0.32 Euros, I could save 70€ per year. Reduce that with the one time costs of about 15 Euros for power plugs (6 x 15 Euro = 90 Euro) I would be saving money early the second year.
Any potential built in Microfone feature is disabled.
Players like smart speakers can be turned off via a HA controlled power plug or the like that in turn can be configured to replace the MA Player power control
The ML Player settings has a feature to turn off a player via the "power control" feature.
Discussion
Yes, I could manually configure some thing similar by manually powering on the individual or all speakers via HA. But the human factor simply is, that I just might be too freaking lazy to do that every time and continue to spend those 70,- Euros for my Sonos idle power consumption. Naturally, this is only for those grumpy old men that resent their HA to continuously bombard them with audio control messages. ;-)
