v0.7.0 - Playmaker

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 30 Oct 06:46

FMMatchLens 0.7.0 now supports Football Manager 27! Currently, only the Steam version is supported. To continue recording matches in FM26, use the 0.6.1 plugin.

The update from 0.6.0 to 0.7.0 brings more ways to analyze a match: explore what contributes to each player's rating, examine connections between players through passing networks, compare both teams' activity across the pitch on the event map, and open player match details to review individual performances through statistics, heatmaps, and movement data.

This major update also expands the rating and statistical data preserved in archives, reduces live capture overhead, and adds a new theme and saved panel preferences.

✨ Highlights

Player Rating Breakdowns

Player ratings can now be expanded to show their components. Hover over a player’s rating to see how shooting, creativity, passing, defending, and goalkeeping performances contribute to the overall rating, and click to pin the breakdown for a closer look.

Breakdowns follow the match timeline and are available during live matches and when replaying archives that contain the required data. When revisiting a goal, a mistake, or a passage of play, you can examine the rating contributions at that moment to better understand a player's performance.

The calculation also accounts for match context, on-pitch roles, and effective playing time. Based on verified data and a research model, the current breakdown largely reconstructs the match engine's rating formula.

701

Player Match Details and More Complete Statistics

New player match-detail cards bring together key statistics, rating contributions, position heatmaps, and movement data, making it easier to move from team analysis to individual performance.

The player statistics panel has been reorganized into overview, shooting, creativity, passing, defending, goalkeeping, and season records. Additional statistics include progressive passes, sprints, and shots from outside the box. Negative metrics, such as errors, also have updated default sorting and highlighting behavior.

A New Theme and Saved Preferences

A new Sofascore-inspired light and dark theme joins the available styles, alongside an animated brand logo and refinements to player details and statistics groups.

The dashboard now remembers commonly used settings, including panel tabs, Tactical Board event/live mode and metrics, and Pass Map and Heatmap views and filters. Your previous choices are restored when you return.

702 703

Passing Networks

The new Pass Map shows regular passing connections between players, with lines distinguishing how frequently they exchange passes. Inspect players and connections to see pass attempts, completion rates, and the number of passes between two players.

You can select a team and time range, and switch between the passing network and position heatmap.

704

Event Map and Attacking Focus

The Momentum card now includes an event map that groups weighted momentum events by pitch region. It shows event counts and each region's share of the team's total, making it easier to compare where both teams are most active.

Attacking-focus analysis is also integrated into the Momentum card. Together, the momentum chart, regional distribution, and attacking focus let you examine a passage of play across both time and space.

705

Capture Performance Improvements

Live capture reduces repeated memory queries, player identity reads, and momentum reads. It also reuses team statistics and snapshots within each capture, reducing synchronous work in the game's update callback.

📦 Archive Compatibility

This update introduces .fmlens 2.8, compared with the 2.7 format used in 0.6.0. It preserves rating inputs, rating events, tactical roles and duties, and category durations to support rating breakdowns along the timeline. The expanded player statistics are also saved with each match.

The updated dashboard continues to support archive formats 2.1–2.8, including previously recorded FM26 archives. Upgrading cannot add data that was never recorded in an older archive; the complete set of new analyses requires recordings that contain the corresponding data.

⬆️ Upgrade Instructions

  1. Close the game and download FMMatchLens-plugin-v0.7.0.zip and FMMatchLens-dashboard-v0.7.0.zip.
  2. Extract the plugin package into the Football Manager 27 game root, merging the BepInEx directory and overwriting the FMMatchLens plugin files. For a first-time installation, set up a compatible BepInEx 6 IL2CPP environment beforehand.
  3. Extract the updated dashboard into a separate directory to avoid mixing its static assets with those from an older version.
  4. Review your existing configuration, especially the paths to graphics packs such as player portraits and club badges. These may still point to FM26 resources; set them to the actual locations of the graphics you use.
  5. Start the game, enter a match, and let it run briefly. Check the connection at http://127.0.0.1:16726/api/health and look for match detection and locking messages in the BepInEx log.

Verification covers match-instance pairing and archive generation on the specified Steam build, cross-checks of season statistics, and local checks for memory boundaries, rating categories, and squad handling. Comprehensive testing across all platforms, rare events, extra time, and every substitution and match-lifecycle combination is still incomplete.

v0.6.0 - Gegenpressing

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 15 Oct 05:04

FMMatchLens now brings live match animation and key event replays to the Tactical Board. Watch players and the ball move across the pitch, or turn on the new Pitch Control overlay to explore how each team influences the space around them.

Player information is more complete, too. This update adds pre-match condition and season statistics, uses the shirt names and numbers worn in the match, and brings team colors closer to the kits you see in the game.

✨ Highlights

Watch the Match on the Tactical Board

The Tactical Board now has a Live mode alongside the existing Events view. When connected to a live match, the animation follows the game's speed. When watching an archive, it follows the playback speed set on the timeline.

Live animation is still an experimental feature.

61

See Who Controls the Space

Match animation opens the door to more advanced analysis. It gives us a way to bring ideas from football research into FMMatchLens, including views that FM itself has never offered.

The first of these is Pitch Control, an optional overlay available for both live matches and archive playback.

It uses player positions, movement speed and direction, and distance from the ball to estimate each team's influence across the pitch. The result appears as a layer of team colors:

  • Stronger colors indicate a stronger advantage in that area
  • Areas where the teams are evenly matched remain transparent
  • The overlay updates as players and the ball move

Pitch Control uses an approximate model to help you explore positioning and the shape of a match.

63

Because FM's match engine behaves differently from real football, the overlay may not always reflect which team has the upper hand in the game.

Replay Key Moments

The Tactical Board's Events view now lets you replay key moments. Click a supported event point and the board loads the surrounding match data, then plays the action as an animated clip.

The first supported events are:

  • Dribbles — Watch the dribbler, nearby players, and the ball move through the action, with a trail showing the dribbling route.
  • Shot chains — Click the first event in a chain to watch the full sequence and see how the attack develops.
62

More Complete Player Information

Player profile cards now show the correct pre-match condition, match sharpness, and morale.

The player-data table also lets you switch between the current match and several season views:

  • League, cup, and club totals
  • International appearances and international totals
  • Friendlies, other competitions, and an additional category whose meaning is still unknown

Season data includes minutes played, goals, assists, disciplinary records, passing, defending, shooting, expected goals, and more.

64

Player labels now favor the shirt names and numbers used in the match. This makes lineups, tables, and animations easier to match to what you see in FM, while leaving more room in the panels. Player names also follow your in-game localization settings automatically.

65

Colors That Feel Closer to the Match

Match kit colors are now included when choosing team colors, making it easier for the dashboard to match FM's own presentation. The dashboard still takes your theme into account and picks colors that remain easy to tell apart.

Other visual improvements include:

  • Goal outlines on the Tactical Board
  • A brighter purple in the Opta-inspired dark theme, with separate team colors for dark mode
  • Simpler momentum-chart tooltips
  • Refined xG timeline tooltips and repositioned totals for easier reading
66

Epic Support Joins Steam and Xbox Game Pass

The plugin now recognizes supported Epic builds alongside Steam and Xbox Game Pass. FMMatchLens now supports all major Windows storefronts for the game.

📦 Archive Format and Compatibility

This update introduces .fmlens archive format 2.7. New recordings preserve pre-match sharpness, season statistics, shirt names and numbers, and team kit colors.

They also record player positions, speed, and facing direction at each match tick, along with the ball's position and height. This is the data behind match animation and event replays.

The new format stores movement more efficiently:

  • Player positions are recorded to the nearest centimeter, with later positions stored as changes from the previous frame
  • Total distance covered is rounded to whole meters, with changes stored separately
  • Speed, facing direction, and each part of the ball's position are only written when they change
  • Direction changes are stored compactly, including when a player turns past the 0°/360° boundary

In compression tests, re-encoding 2.6 archives with the new frame encoding reduced their size by around 48%.

New 2.7 recordings contain more data: player coordinates are now read correctly, and player speed, facing direction, and ball coordinates are included. Even with those additions, average archive size in the tests was 1,911 KB, using around 14% less disk space than 2.6 recordings.

The reader continues to support archives in formats 2.1–2.6.

⬆️ Upgrade Instructions

Download and update both of the following packages:

  • FMMatchLens-plugin-v0.6.0.zip
  • FMMatchLens-dashboard-v0.6.0.zip

Extract the plugin archive into the Football Manager 2026 game root and allow it to overwrite the existing FMMatchLens files.

It is recommended to extract the new dashboard into a separate directory so that its assets files are not mixed with files from an older version.

Full Changelog: v0.5.0...v0.6.0

v0.5.0 - One-Touch

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 30 Sep 08:38

From v0.4.0 to v0.5.0, FMMatchLens has grown into a more focused and approachable analysis workspace, with richer player comparisons, deeper event analysis, and faster ways to move around the dashboard.

An interactive walkthrough now introduces the major workflows, while new focus layouts, keyboard shortcuts, xG Map, improved heatmaps, and more reliable match data make it easier to move from the scoreline to the details that shaped it.

✨ Highlights

Learn the Dashboard by Using It

The new interactive Explore Tour guides you through the dashboard instead of simply describing it.

It walks through timeline navigation, squad and player comparison, match data, formations, heatmaps, Tactical Board events, archive selection, appearance settings, and immersive mode. The tour responds to real interactions, moves the dashboard into the relevant state.

1

Put Every Screen to Work

The dashboard can now connect to a configurable backend address, making it possible to display FMMatchLens on another device across your local network.

Keep Football Manager on your main PC while a laptop, tablet, or second computer becomes a dedicated live analysis screen. The selected backend address is remembered between visits, so the extra display is ready whenever you need it.

Read Wiki: Connect-FMMatchLens-over-LAN-with-Caddy

6

A More Focused Analysis Workspace

Match Statistics, Formation, Heatmap, and the Tactical Board can now expand into dedicated focus layouts, with animated transitions that keep the current context easy to follow.

The scoreboard now includes a unified toolbar for fullscreen, immersive mode, the feature tour, and a shortcut reference. Centralized keyboard controls make common actions quicker, including panel focus, replay playback and seeking, and closing temporary views.

You can now:

  • Focus Match Statistics, Formation, Heatmap, or the Tactical Board without losing the current analysis state
  • Enter fullscreen or hide surrounding controls for a cleaner presentation
  • Control archive playback and navigate key views from the keyboard
2

Compare Players Side by Side

Player profiles can now be pinned directly from squad avatars. Pinning players from opposing teams opens a centered comparison view with aligned attributes, radar presentation, preferred-foot ability, and clearer visual differences between the two profiles.

Profiles also expose more of the data behind a player:

  • Foot ability
  • Player traits
  • Goalkeeper saves held, parried, and tipped

Opponent suggestions use the nearest formation position, making it faster to compare players performing similar roles.

5

Deeper Event and xG Analysis

The xG panel now includes an xG Map alongside the timeline.

3

The Tactical Board has gained clearer markers, animated event reveals, refined hover details, grouped legends, and team or individual player filters. Native Football Manager events now distinguish passes, crosses, saves, fouls, key tackles, penalties, own goals, and cards more accurately.

1

Sharper, Faster Heatmaps

Heatmaps now use a higher-resolution density field. The result preserves more spatial detail, avoids a small number of extreme cells flattening the rest of the map, and reduces temporary allocations for recent-period views. The new focus layout gives the pitch more room when detailed inspection matters.

More Complete and Reliable Match Context

Competition names, logos, and colors are now captured and displayed in archive and timeline presentation. Newgen portraits are resolved from common facepack r-{UID} resource paths.

4

The plugin now builds match rosters from each team's own player table instead of relying on a combined match table. This makes home and away assignment, player identity, and event-to-player linking more reliable.

📦 Archive Compatibility

v0.5.0 uses .fmlens archive format 2.6 and continues to read archives created with earlier 2.x versions, including v0.4.0 archives.

Format 2.6 adds goalkeeper saves held, parried, and tipped; competition metadata; 64-bit player traits; and first- and second-half team shot totals. Older archives still replay normally, with fields that were not recorded left unavailable or defaulted safely by the dashboard.

Archives written by v0.5.0 require a v0.5.0 or newer dashboard because older releases do not understand the 2.6 metadata and player-stat extensions.

⬆️ Upgrade Instructions

Download and update both of the following packages:

  • FMMatchLens-plugin-v0.5.0.zip
  • FMMatchLens-dashboard-v0.5.0.zip

Extract the plugin archive into the Football Manager 2026 game root and allow it to overwrite the existing FMMatchLens files.

It is recommended to extract the new dashboard into a separate directory so that its assets files are not mixed with files from an older version.

Full Changelog: v0.4.0...v0.5.0

v0.4.0 - Total Football

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 18 Sep 09:06

From v0.3.0 to v0.4.0, FMMatchLens has gained a more flexible appearance system, a much easier way to browse saved matches, a hosted demo experience, and more accurate pitch presentation.

The plugin can now identify supported Steam and Xbox Game Pass builds automatically, while the dashboard adapts its visual language, archive workflow, and pitch geometry more closely to how you use it.

✨ Highlights

Try FMMatchLens Online

FMMatchLens now has a Cloudflare Pages build designed for the hosted dashboard ———— http://fmml.osnsyc.top

The online version can load a demonstration archive without the plugin, making it easier to explore the dashboard before installing anything. Its assets are split and cached for faster repeat visits.

For privacy and clarity, the hosted dashboard does not attempt to contact the local FMMatchLens plugin until you explicitly enable and select the live connection.

A Dashboard That Looks the Way You Want

The new appearance panel separates the overall visual preset from display preferences, so you can change the dashboard without losing the clarity of its match visualizations.

You can now:

  • Choose between FMMatchLens, Opta-inspired, and Wyscout-inspired presets
  • Follow the system color scheme or select light or dark mode where supported
  • Enable colorblind-friendly visualization encodings
  • Enable high-contrast presentation
  • Keep your appearance settings between visits without a flash of the wrong theme at startup

Team colors, charts, formations, the Tactical Board, and PixiJS heatmaps now share the same resolved visual tokens, keeping every part of the dashboard in sync.

0401

A Better Match Archive Library

The old archive selector has been replaced by a dedicated, paginated match library.

Each entry makes the important details easier to scan:

  • Match date and recording time
  • Home and away teams
  • Final score
  • Complete or incomplete recording status
  • Win, draw, or loss for the player-controlled team when it can be determined
  • Home and away manager-control indicators

Live matches, local .fmlens files, and archives stored by the plugin are presented as separate sources. You can refresh the library, move between pages with the controls or mouse wheel, open a local file, or drop an archive directly onto the selector.

Archive summaries are cached and the local API now returns them in pages, so the library remains responsive as your collection grows.

0402

More Accurate Pitches

Formation, heatmap, and Tactical Board views now use one shared pitch model with corrected penalty areas, goal areas, penalty arcs, center markings, and corner arcs.

New recordings also preserve the venue's pitch dimensions. This lets the dashboard reflect the actual pitch proportions instead of applying the same shape to every match. Tactical events can remain visible when their recorded positions extend beyond the touchlines, and pitch gutters give those events room to render.

Player markers and panel headers have also been refined for clearer shirt numbers, status badges, and better behavior on narrower screens.

Full Changelog: v0.3.0...v0.4.0

1701.mp4

Richer Player Profiles

Player profile cards can now display more information:

  • Age, Date of birth, Nationality or region, National or regional flag
  • Body type, Height
  • Guide value, Wage
  • Senior international appearances/goals, Youth international appearances/goals
  • Physical condition, Match sharpness
161059

More Reliable Match and Player Identification

FMMatchLens can now identify active matches and players more reliably:

  • Supports human-versus-AI matches, human-versus-human matches
  • Displays information about the home and away managers
  • Reduces missing data at the beginning of a match

Better Team Colors

The dashboard now chooses more suitable home and away colors from each club's badge.

Light and dark themes choose colors separately, making the two teams easier to distinguish and reducing cases where a team color blends into the background.

1

📦 Archive Compatibility

v0.3.0 uses .fmlens archive format 2.4 and continues to support archives created by v0.2.x.

Older archives can still be replayed normally, but player information that was not recorded at the time will remain unavailable. Details such as date of birth, nationality, body type, guide value, and international records will only appear in matches recorded after upgrading the plugin.

⬆️ Upgrade Instructions

Download and update both of the following packages:

  • FMMatchLens-plugin-v0.3.0.zip
  • FMMatchLens-dashboard-v0.3.0.zip

Extract the plugin archive into the Football Manager 2026 game root and allow it to overwrite the existing FMMatchLens files.

It is recommended to extract the new dashboard into a separate directory so that its assets files are not mixed with files from an older version.

Full Changelog: v0.2.0...v0.3.0

v0.2.2

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 10 Sep 04:26

Added

  • Added team-manager metadata, including manager UID, name, and human-control status, to the realtime API, score-header details, and archive format 2.3 while retaining compatibility with older 2.x archives.
  • Added adaptive home and away team-color selection from club logo's background, foreground, and outline colors, with duplicate removal, OKLab color-distance filtering, and separate light- and dark-theme combinations.

Changed

  • Reworked match-instance discovery to require complete manager classification before candidate pairing and to support both human-vs-AI and human-vs-human matches.
  • Switched player and event identity to the unique Person.Uid, with slot-based fallback identities when a UID cannot be read and compatibility handling for legacy archive references.
  • Centralized repeated frontend colors in the theme palette and aligned formations, heatmaps, charts, timelines, squad panels, tactical markers, menus, and controls across light and dark themes.

Fixed

  • Preserved pre-lock match frames across pauses and transient memory-read failures so the opening phase is restored once the correct match instance is locked.

Full Changelog: v0.2.0...v0.2.1

v0.2.0 - Kickoff

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 02 Sep 08:01

v0.2.0 arrived much sooner than expected.

Shortly after releasing v0.1.x, I realized that .fmlens match archives were significantly larger than they needed to be. A typical match archive was close to 50 MB, and there was clearly a lot of room for improvement.

That led to a major redesign of the archive format.

With the new chunked storage format, delta encoding, and compression pipeline, the size of a typical match archive has been reduced from around 50 MB to roughly 2 MB.

The trade-off is that v0.2.0 introduces a completely new archive format, which means it is no longer compatible with .fmlens match archives created by v0.1.x.

This is also the main reason why this release moves directly to v0.2.0 instead of continuing with another v0.1.x patch release.

Starting with this version, I also want to introduce a small tradition for FMMatchLens: major releases will receive their own codenames*

Most of these names will probably come from football, tactics, or the game itself. They do not necessarily have to be serious, but hopefully they will make each major release a little more memorable.

And for the very first one, there really could not be a more fitting name:

Kickoff

This is the first major step forward for FMMatchLens, and the starting point for many more match analysis features to come.

v0.2.0 introduces a completely new formation history system, redesigned match timeline, and chunked archive format, while also expanding player roles, physical condition data, and tactical visualizations.

✨ Highlights

📦 A Completely New .fmlens Archive Format

This release introduces a redesigned chunk-based archive format:

  • 16-bit coordinate quantization
  • Per-frame delta encoding
  • Independent zlib/Deflate-compressed chunks
  • CRC integrity checks for every chunk
  • End-of-file index for fast seeking
  • Recovery of valid data prefixes after unexpected interruptions
  • The backend only decompresses chunks covering the requested Tick range
  • Local .fmlens files can be opened directly in the browser
  • Static player information is stored only once, with later records containing only formation changes and newly introduced players
  • Configurable compression level, chunk size, maximum latency, and background queue capacity

Important

v0.2.0 no longer includes compatibility fallback for the old archive format. .fmlens files generated by previous versions may not open in the new dashboard. If you need to view old match archives, please keep a copy of the corresponding older dashboard version.

Formation History and Dynamic Replay

You can now review formation changes separately for both teams, in and out of possession:

Never miss the little tactical tweaks your opponent tries to sneak past you.

  • Automatically records substitutions, formation changes, and player role changes
  • Quickly jump to each tactical adjustment through the timeline
  • Animated transitions make player movement and personnel changes easier to understand
  • Any historical formation state can be pinned and used as the baseline for later comparisons
  • Supported in both live matches and .fmlens archive replays
1

A More Accurate and Clearer Match Timeline

The match timeline has been redesigned:

  • Correctly displays stoppage time
  • Uses actual match Ticks to align live matches and archived replays
  • Adds half-time separators and clearer progress indicators
  • Automatically merges duplicate events and reduces event icon overlap
  • Redesigned event detail tooltips
  • Improved switching between live matches, server-side archives, and local archives
  • Added working 32× and 64× high-speed replay modes
3

Attacking Focus Added to the Tactical Map

The tactical map now includes an optional Attacking Focus layer, showing the percentage of attacking events occurring on the left, through the center, and on the right for both teams.

This layer can be independently enabled or disabled from Display Options, alongside player shirt numbers.

2

Richer Player and Role Information

Player panels and formation views can now display more native Football Manager data:

  • In-possession roles
  • Out-of-possession roles
  • Natural and familiar positions
  • Overall physical condition
  • Match condition
  • Penalty and own-goal statistics
  • Clearer substitute, substitution, and match-status icons
  • Player detail hover cards directly on the formation view

🛠️ Fixes and Quality-of-Life Improvements

  • Fixed player data offsets that were previously misidentified as yellow and red cards; these fields actually represent penalties and own goals
  • Improved the display of player roles, familiar positions, and status information in squad lists
  • Improved substitute and substitution icons
  • Improved local archive selection, drag-and-drop behavior, and replay controls
  • Added the MIT open-source license

⬆️ Upgrade Instructions

Please download and update both of the following packages from this Release:

  • FMMatchLens-plugin-v0.2.0.zip
  • FMMatchLens-dashboard-v0.2.0.zip

To upgrade the plugin, extract the plugin archive into the Football Manager 2026 game root directory and allow it to overwrite the existing FMMatchLens files.

For the dashboard, it is recommended to extract the new version into a new directory to avoid mixing assets files from different versions.

Updating Archive Configuration

v0.2.0 introduces the new chunked archive format and a background writing pipeline.

After upgrading, please check:

BepInEx/config/com.fmmatchlens.plugin.cfg

Make sure it contains the following [Archive] section. In most cases, the default values are recommended:

[Archive]

## None or Fast (independent zlib-wrapped Deflate chunks).

Compression = Fast

## Chunking and bounded background writer settings.

## At 4 ticks per second, 2400 ticks is about 10 in-game minutes.

## A chunk is submitted when it reaches ChunkTicks or MaxChunkLatencyMs,

## whichever comes first.

ChunkTicks = 2400

## 60000 ms is a fallback for pauses or unusually slow tick production.

MaxChunkLatencyMs = 60000

QueueCapacity = 8

Configuration options:

Option Default Description
Compression Fast Uses independent zlib/Deflate-compressed chunks. Set this to None to disable compression, but archive files will become significantly larger.
ChunkTicks 2400 Maximum number of Ticks stored in a single chunk. At roughly 4 Ticks per second, this corresponds to around 10 in-game minutes.
MaxChunkLatencyMs 60000 Maximum amount of time, in milliseconds, before the current chunk is submitted even if the Tick limit has not yet been reached.
QueueCapacity 8 Capacity of the background compression and writing queue. If the queue remains full, the current archive recording will stop rather than silently dropping match frames.

These options do not change the frequency at which match data is captured. They only affect chunk size, compression behavior, and when data is written to the archive.

If your existing configuration file does not contain an [Archive] section, you can add the settings above manually.

Alternatively, you can back up and delete the old configuration file, then launch the game once and allow the plugin to regenerate it using the new defaults.

After regenerating the configuration, remember to restore any custom settings such as GraphicsPath, logging mode, and other personal configuration changes.

Important

v0.2.0 no longer includes compatibility fallback for the old archive format. .fmlens files generated by previous versions may not open in the new dashboard. If you need to view old match archives, please keep a copy of the corresponding older dashboard version.
