Walkthrough

Replaces static API signature auth with per-request nonce-based HMAC signing. Updates ApiClient public methods to accept nonces, adds timestamp and request ID headers, and introduces signature computation helpers. Integrates nonce generation into store API calls. Adds uuid dependency. Updates tests to reflect removed apiSignature option.

Poem

A nonce hops in, a signature sings,
HMAC drums with timestamped strings.
A UUID tail wags through the breeze,
Headers line up: “Verify, please!”
I thump my paws—secure and bright—
Requests now dance in moonlit night. 🐇✨

Summary of Changes

Hello @gocanto, I'm Gemini Code Assist1! I'm currently reviewing this pull request and will post my feedback shortly. In the meantime, here's a summary to help you and other reviewers quickly get up to speed!

I've implemented a new request signing mechanism within the ApiClient to bolster API security. This change introduces a robust way to authenticate and ensure the integrity of all outgoing API requests. The core idea is to generate a unique signature for each request, incorporating details like a nonce and a timestamp, which the server can then use to verify the request's authenticity and detect any tampering. This significantly enhances the security posture of our API interactions.

Highlights

  • Enhanced API Security: I've implemented a comprehensive request signing mechanism using HMAC-SHA256 to authenticate and verify the integrity of API requests. This ensures that all outgoing requests are secure and untampered.
  • Dynamic Signature Generation: New utility methods such as getNonce, sha256Hex, hmacSha256Hex, sortedQuery, and getSignature have been introduced. These methods work together to dynamically compute and append the X-API-Signature header for both GET and POST requests.
  • Standardized Request Headers: The createHeaders method has been updated to include essential metadata headers: X-API-Nonce, X-Request-ID, and X-API-Timestamp. These headers provide crucial information for server-side validation of the request signature.

Code Review

This pull request adds request signing logic to the API client. However, the current implementation has a critical security flaw: the nonce and timestamp are generated only once when the client is instantiated and are reused for all subsequent requests. This makes the application vulnerable to replay attacks. Additionally, the HMAC signature is being generated using the public API key as the secret, instead of what appears to be the intended API secret stored in apiSignature. I've added detailed comments on how to resolve these issues.
