Release list
Simply3D v0.4.2
Sketch your own parts: draw flat shapes, then extrude or revolve them into solids.
What's new
- Sketch (K, or Insert ▸ Draw ▸ Sketch): draw rectangles (rounded corners or slots), circles, polygons and outlines with straight and curved segments, on the plate or on any face of an object.
- Grid snapping, snapping to corners and centres of other shapes, and exact sizes for the selected shape in the bottom bar.
- Shapes drawn inside another become holes; overlapping shapes merge.
- Extrude into a new part, onto the object you drew on, or cut into it (optionally all the way through). Revolve into an upright part — vases, knobs, wheels.
- Live 3D preview, its own undo while sketching, and Last sketch brings back the sketch you just used.
- Update check: Simply3D looks for a newer release once a day (turn it off in Settings) and shows a button with what's new when there is one. Help ▸ Updates checks right away.
- Extrude down works on threaded parts: bolts, nuts and threaded rods can now be extruded down to the plate without errors.

Simply3D v0.4.1
The ribbon now fits any window size, the way Microsoft Office does.
What's new
- Ribbon fits narrow windows: as the window gets narrower, groups shrink one at a time from the right — first to small icons with labels (three to a column), then to icons only (the name shows when you hover). Past that, the ribbon scrolls. Group captions always stay on one line.
- Top row makes room too: the search box turns into a search icon, then the app name, logo and save icon step aside, and Print shows just its icon.
- Works down to about half a laptop screen without anything overlapping.

Simply3D v0.4.0
A design pass: everything has one home, results tell you what happened (with Undo), and a new Print step takes your plate straight to your slicer.
What's new
- Print (Ctrl+P, top right): pick your printer, then a checklist catches what would go wrong (parts off or below the plate, too big for the printer, open meshes, overhangs that need supports, thin walls), each with a one-click fix. Then open the plate in your slicer: Simply3D finds Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer, ElegooSlicer, PrusaSlicer, UltiMaker Cura, Creality Print and others, or uses the app your computer opens 3MF files with. Or save 3MF, STL, OBJ or PLY.
- Printer presets: Bambu Lab, Elegoo, Prusa, Creality, Anycubic and Voron, setting the plate size and build height.
- Settings in the bar under the view: every tool you start from the ribbon (Simplify, Smooth, Round edges, Extrude down, Hollow, Make solid, Pattern, Cut, Picture, Array) shows its settings right there, with a live preview. No need for the side panel.
- Array is a tool of its own (Object tab), with an outline of where each copy will go.
- Notices in the corner of the view say what just happened, with Undo right there.
- Undo history: the arrow next to Undo lists your last steps; jump back to before any of them.
Easier to use
- The side panel shows what's selected: its settings, position and size, and its health.
- Ribbon: Edit is Combine / Cut / Shape / Fix; Surface (was Paint) has Paint, Faces, Texture and Sculpt.
- One name per action everywhere: Merge, Combine, Separate, Extrude down, Round edges, Bake, Drop to plate, Centre on plate.
- Tooltips show each button's key; ? or F1 lists every shortcut.
- A blue frame around the view while a tool is active.
- Clearer text, a lighter selection in the object list.
- Tools that keep their options in the side panel open it while they run and close it after.

Simply3D v0.3.3
What's new
- Linux download:
Simply3D-linux-x64.tar.gz. Unpack it and run./simply3d, or./install.shto add Simply3D to your applications menu with its icon (no root needed;./install.sh --uninstallremoves it). Runs on Ubuntu 22.04+, Debian 12+, Fedora 36+, Mint 21+, Arch and others, on Wayland or X11, with a Vulkan graphics driver. - Building from source on Linux is now one command:
./build.sh. The README has the steps for each distro.
Download
- Windows:

Simply3D v0.3.2
What's new
- Printable threads: a new "Printable 45°" thread profile prints with no overhangs or supports, either way up. Use it for printed parts that screw together.
- Settings in the bottom bar: Simplify, Smooth, Round, Extrude down, Hollow, Make solid, Pattern and Cut now show their settings right in the preview bar under the view. No need to open the side panel.
- Drop shapes in the middle: while placing a new shape, press C or click "Plate centre"; or use "Add at plate centre" in the add window. Settings → New shapes can make it the default.
Fixes
- Cutting after extruding faces of an imported model no longer fails with "invalid mesh".
- Repair now removes hidden inner walls, so models that other apps flag as broken get fixed.
- Lay flat and Measure switch off again when you click them on the ribbon (or press their key). Lay flat finishes after one face; hold Shift to lay more.
- The ribbon's "Apply" is now "Bake". It's only enabled when there's rotation or scale to build into the shape, and it says what it did.
Smaller changes
- The start screen is simpler: Open a model or Empty plate (which opens the Insert tab).

Simply3D v0.3.0
What's new
- Edit generated parts later: select a gear, bolt, box, bin or brick and change its settings in the side panel; it rebuilds in place. Settings are saved in 3MF projects.
-Simply3D 0.3.0Print check (View tab): highlights overhangs, thin walls and islands before you slice, with your own overhang angle and minimum wall. - Circular array: copies around a centre, with a live preview.
- Split to fit the printer: cuts models that are too big into pieces that fit, with pegs or dowels.
- Printer presets now include build height.
Simply3D 0.2.0.

Simply3D 0.1.0
Simply3D is a free, fast 3D modelling app for 3D printing. It's a remake of Microsoft 3D Builder in Rust, with the same simple tab-and-ribbon way of working, plus the precision, repair, painting and sculpting tools 3D Builder never had.
Download
Simply3D-windows-x64.zip below holds a single portable simply3d.exe for 64-bit Windows 10/11. There's nothing to install: unzip it and run it. Open models by dragging STL, OBJ, PLY, 3MF or picture files onto the window.
What it does
- Files: opens and saves STL, OBJ, PLY and 3MF, including Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer and PrusaSlicer projects with their colours, painted areas, negative parts and thumbnails.
- Shapes: cubes, cylinders, spheres and more, with exact rounded or chamfered edges. Also text from any installed font, and pictures turned into 3D (outline, height map, stamp, lithophane).
- Parts: ISO metric bolts, nuts, threaded rods and holes; gears, springs, print-in-place hinges and snap-fit clips.
- Storage and toys: boxes with slide, snap or hinged lids; modular grid storage bins and baseplates; building bricks, plates and tiles in two sizes, with fit settings to tune for your printer.
- Precise editing: move, rotate and scale by mouse or exact numbers (type a distance while dragging, or nudge with the arrow keys), snapping, align, distribute, auto-arrange and auto-orient. Measure distances, angles and holes.
- Combine and cut: union, subtract and intersect with a robust boolean engine. Use any object as a live hole. Cut with a plane, with optional pegs or dowels so the halves fit back together.
- Mesh tools: repair, make solid, simplify, smooth, round edges, hollow, extrude, Voronoi/gyroid patterns, surface textures (knurl, wood, carbon fibre or your own picture), and face selection with extrude, flatten and separate.
- Paint and sculpt: paint colours for multi-material printing (saved for Bambu, Orca and Prusa), and sculpt with draw, inflate, smooth, flatten and grab brushes.
- Comfortable on big models: fast picking, painting and sculpting on multi-million-triangle meshes. Smooth shading, wireframe, section view, X-ray, undo/redo, autosave with crash recovery, and command search (Ctrl+K).
