Autohotkey media buttons don't work

Version: 1.8.0 (shortcuts plugin is switched on)
Windows version: 10.0.17763

This application has the same issue as YTM Desktop:
The application doesn't react on media keys simulated by Autohotkey like Media_Prev, Media_Next, Media_Play_Pause.

I also suspect that there can be problems with Logitech keyboards' media buttons in the same way as in YTM Desktop, like it is described here and here

Have you tried AFTER you have pressed at least one of the player functions with your mouse?

also go to https://keycode.info to check if you actually have the right media keys, because all those media keys should work natively with or without shortcuts plugin

The bug is still present. Let me elaborate:

1. I have just installed the latest build 1.11.0. Didn't touch any configuration options.
2. I have the following Autohotkey script running:

#Persistent
#SingleInstance Force

; Ctrl+q
^q::Media_Prev

; Ctrl+w
^w::Media_Next

; Ctrl+e
^e::Media_Play_Pause

3. I open the youtube-music application. Using the mouse I navigate to the playlist, start playing the music and then minimize the app.
4. I click my autohotkey shortcuts like "Ctrl+q" and nothing happens. The tracks don't switch back and forth as they supposed to.
5. I open the https://keycode.info website in Firefox and click all my shortcuts and the website shows that they are detected as "MediaTrackPrevious" "MediaTrackNext" "MediaPlayPause", exactly according to my Autohotkey script.
6. I open https://music.youtube.com/ in Firefox and there my shortcuts work properly.
7. I open my offline music collection in "VLC player" and my shortcuts work there too.

Therefore, it looks like something is not right with the way how this "Youtube music" application handles shortcuts.

Did you try doing it without shortcuts plugin activated?

it really should work if it does in music.youtube.com

It works after I disabled the shortcuts plugin!
I also tried to define global shortcuts in the shortcuts plugin instead of using Autohotkey as you proposed in your previous message and this way also works!

I looked into the implementation of the shortcuts plugin and I see that it unconditionally binds media buttons:

	_registerGlobalShortcut(win.webContents, "MediaPlayPause", playPause);
	_registerGlobalShortcut(win.webContents, "MediaNextTrack", next);
	_registerGlobalShortcut(win.webContents, "MediaPreviousTrack", previous);

Can it be the reason why when shortcuts plugin is enabled these buttons don't work? And if the media buttons work without this plugin, why do we need to register global shortcuts for them in the plugin?

Yup pretty sure that's the problem here.
I didn't write any of that so I don't know why it was made that way.

Thats why i made a PR to atleast remove it from the default plugins ( #218 )

You could fork and make a PR yourself if you got a nice way to actually fix that.
(the best way might just be to delete those 3 lines? 😝 )

I had some issue with the Media buttons too, and solved this way too!

Maybe it's better to set shortcuts plugin disabled by default?
