Help!what should I do to roll back to version 1.0.11?

My desktop is experiencing a random freezing bug. Without warning, the entire desktop will freeze completely, and I can only force a shutdown.
I just updated to version 1.0.13, but the issue still persists, making it completely impossible for me to work. May I ask, what should I do to roll back to version 1.0.11? I'm not sure how to do that.

The easiest way may be to download the source code, check out the version you want, and then build and install it.

Are you sure this is a problem with COSMIC and not some other component, like the kernel or something? What distribution are you using?

If you're sure it's something to do with COSMIC, then just downgrading cosmic-comp may be enough to work around whatever you're experiencing. Most of the other components wouldn't have the ability to cause a full desktop freeze.

For rolling back, first of all, you can run ls -alh /var/cache/apt/archives/ to take a look at any locally cached packages you might still have around. If you see an older version of cosmic-comp in that directory, you can try installing it.

Otherwise, you can run the following commands to try downgrading cosmic-comp to version 1.0.11:

sudo apt build-dep cosmic-comp
git clone https://github.com/pop-os/cosmic-comp
cd cosmic-comp
git checkout epoch-1.0.11
dpkg-buildpackage -b -uc -us
cd ..
sudo dpkg -i ./cosmic-comp_*.deb

Then reboot. Does that alleviate the freezing you're referring to?

Again, it's possible the issue could have to do with an update of another component (such as the kernel) that happened to occur around the time COSMIC 1.0.12 was released. Knowing more info like your hardware details could help to figure out exactly what freezing problem you're having.

Thank you for your help. I will try your method. My hardware is a laptop with AMD8845 + NVIDIA4060, and the system kernel is 6.18. I don't know how to get more information about the system failures.

As I mentioned was a possibility, the kernel would seem to be involved. If you hold down the spacebar while booting and use the arrow key to select the "old kern" option, is the system more stable?

Unfortunately, changing the kernel did not solve the problem. I tried using the old 6.17.9 kernel, and the issue still persists.

Thanks again. I rolled back the version of cosmic-comp following the command you gave me, and it seems the issue has been resolved. Everything is working normally so far, and I will continue to use it to see if the problem reappears.
