Problems with shortcuts on non-US keyboards (ctrl-/ and others)

The keyboard shortcut for Comment/Uncomment ( Cmd + / ) in Processing 2.1 doesn't seem to work on Mac OSX (10.8.5). The menu bar gets highlighted when pressed, but no action is performed on the code.

When I click manually on the menu item it works fine but not via the shortcut. All other shortcuts work. I can confirm that it worked well in version 2.0.3.

It's working for me with the same software versions. There are issues with 2.1 when the text editor stops responding. Can you confirm is was an isolated issue with Cmd + /?

Yes, it seems to be isolated since all other shortcuts and functions work. It's only this shortcut that doesn't work, the function itself does. After installing OSX 10.9 now it's still the same issue.

Please check the Keyboard panel in System Preferences of OS X. Is there any conflict?

I checked and there is none. But here's what I discovered: I'm from Germany and have a german keyboard, so I switched to US-keyboard and guess what, it worked! On the german keyboard I have to hold down Shift and press the 7-key to get "/", so maybe the Shift-key is "in the way". Strange though that it worked in previous versions of Processing.

Okay, next update: I found out that when I press the key-combination from the US-keyboard (Cmd + "-") on the German one, I still can access the shortcut and it works. So this problem has been solved for me. But I can imagine it being really confusing for people from other countries to see that their shortcuts don't work, so maybe you need some testing here. Anyways, thank you for the quick reaction!

Yes, these shortcuts with Ctrl + punctuation signs nearly never work on a French keyboard on Windows, because lot of these signs can be accessed only via Shift or even via AltGr (the {}[] combinations, particularly).

Ctrl+, (accessing Preferences) works because I can type a comma without Shift. :-)

A software like Eclipse never uses these shortcuts, but rather use other modifiers: Ctrl+Alt+C, Ctrl+Shift+T, Ctrl+Alt+H... Some gymnastic (hands and memory)...

I'm also from Germany/using a qwertz-keyboard and I'm using Processing 2.1 under Ubuntu/Linux and I have the same problem.

It really seems that this problem always occurs when the shortcut doesn't expect the shift key, but you have to press the shift key to get this character.

"Save As": Ctrl + Shift + S -> it works
"Exapmples": Ctrl + Shift + O -> it works
"Increas Indent" Ctrl + closing bracket -> it doesn't work because you have to press shift on a qwertz to get the closing bracket and "Ctrl + Shift + closing bracket" is not "Ctrl + closing bracket"

Activating Caps Lock doesn't help. However, this would be annoying just like using a qwertz keyboard as a qwerty.

The whole problem would be solved if it would be possible to edit the shortcuts.
And this wouldn't just solve the problem, it also would be a nice new feature.

Are you offering to take this on? Creating an editor for shortcuts is a lot of work.

In the meantime, there should be a way to do this without strange gymnastics in the code. Perhaps I'm missing something about getting the correct KeyStroke object so that it works in a cross-language way.

I just yesterday started with Processing 3.0a5. Ctrl+C and Ctrl+X didn't work, which was pretty annoying. Ctrl+V worked, but obviously inserted something else.

Ubuntu 14.10.
