Bidirectional workflow for `qmd` and MS word?

Hi, many collaborators like to use MS word when writing the paper. It would be nice to have a bidirectional workflow that allows:

write in qmd -> word -> edit in word -> back to qmd

So it would be easier to incorporate the editing from collaborators.

For R markdown, there is already a usable package redoc for this purpose https://github.com/noamross/redoc/

I'm wondering is it possible to have a similar thing for qmd.

There isn't anything like this currently but its definitely something we'll be investing in going forward (no specific timeframes yet)

@tecosaur developed a very nice package for emacs org-mode which has similar features

Currently I can already do
pandoc -f docx -t markdown --wrap=none -o my.qmd my.docx

The only 2 limitations are:

1. The loss of quarto Yaml
2. The loss of figures (all the figures become something like ![](media/image1.png){width="6.5in" height="8.411763998250219in"}

I think what we need is just a way to recover those information when converting back to qmd. The way redoc deal with it is that they stores some of these information in the hidden fields in MS word when knitting.
