The dashboard says OFFLINE

The two most common causes:

  1. Wrong console IP. Re-enter it in the Live Dashboard, or use Auto-Detect.
  2. Different subnets. For example one device on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and the other on 5 GHz, or the PC on a VPN. Put both on the same network.

Also check:

  • GT7 is actually in-game, not just sitting on the PS home screen.
  • A firewall isn't blocking UDP port 33740 (TRACE receives telemetry there; it sends its heartbeat to the console on UDP 33739).
  • The dashboard flips to OFFLINE a couple of seconds after packets stop (game closed, console asleep) and back to LIVE by itself when they resume.

Auto-Detect not finding the console? It uses a plain network broadcast, which can miss the console if you have a VPN or several network adapters. Typing the IP in manually always works.

The STRATEGY panel shows -- or looks off

  • Fuel shows --: fuel per lap is the median of your recent clean laps, so it needs a few of them first. Pit laps, spins and in/out laps are ignored. Keep driving and it fills in.
  • Tyre figures are estimates: GT7 doesn't send tyre wear over telemetry, so the tyre-stint numbers are a projection, not a reading. They're labelled (est.) for that reason.
  • Stint looks wrong after a pit stop: a refuel starts a new stint automatically. If you changed tyres without refuelling, or the stint didn't reset, click [ NEW TYRES ] to start a fresh one.

No spoken alerts, or VS TOP is empty

  • No voice: alerts are read out through your system's voice. Windows and macOS have one built in; on Linux install speech-dispatcher or espeak-ng. Without a voice TRACE plays the alert sound instead. Also check that VOICE ALERTS is ticked.
  • No pop-ups or sounds on a new PB or race end: tick NOTIFICATIONS in the Live Dashboard.
  • VS TOP shows nothing: it needs an internet connection, at least one public leaderboard lap for that car and track, and TOP-LAP GHOST ticked. Otherwise it's skipped silently.

A tab looks empty (Corners, Theoretical, Consistency)

  • Corners (Lap Analyst): to score against your PB, turn Compare on and load your PB as lap B. In Race Analyst, use Corner baseline to switch between the best lap of the race and your saved PB for that car and track.
  • Theoretical: it stitches your fastest micro-sectors, so it needs more than one saved lap for the same car and track.
  • Consistency: it needs a few clean laps. Pit laps and spins (more than 7% off your best) are left out.

Windows

  • SmartScreen blocked it / "unrecognized app": click More info, then Run anyway. TRACE.exe isn't code-signed yet (a free SignPath Foundation certificate was applied for but not approved yet; TRACE will reapply once it has more public adoption).
  • Antivirus quarantined it: a common false positive with PyInstaller-built apps. Restore the file and allowlist it.
  • Firewall prompt on first run: allow TRACE on your private network so it can receive UDP 33740.

macOS

  • "Unidentified developer" / app can't be opened: right-click TRACE.app, choose Open, then Open again.
  • Still refused: run xattr -cr /Applications/TRACE.app in Terminal once, then open it again.
  • Intel Mac: the app is built for Apple Silicon only. Use the pip install or the Python source zip instead.
  • No module named 'tkinter' (pip or source install): your Python didn't include it. Reinstall Python from python.org.

Linux

  • Make it executable and run it: chmod +x TRACE && ./TRACE
  • It needs glibc 2.35 or newer (Ubuntu 22.04+, Fedora 36+, Debian 12+ or similar) and a desktop session. It won't run headless.
  • No module named 'tkinter' (pip or source install): sudo apt install python3-tk on Ubuntu/Debian.
  • Check your firewall (for example ufw) isn't blocking incoming UDP 33740.

Python / pip installs

  • ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'numpy' (or pandas / matplotlib): the dependency install didn't finish. Re-run pip install gt7tracetelem (or pip3 install -r requirements.txt for the source zip) and watch for errors.
  • Weird import conflicts: the PyPI package is gt7tracetelem. A different package called gt7telem can conflict with it; check with pip show gt7telem.

Laps and settings

  • Laps are saved to ~/TRACE/laps and settings to ~/.gt7telem.
  • A standalone .exe or Linux binary unzipped into a folder you can write to stays portable and keeps laps/ and settings.json right next to itself.
  • Installed through Chocolatey, WinGet or as the macOS app, it uses the per-user folders above so upgrades can't wipe your laps.

A new GT7 car or track is missing

  • Track: run add_track.py from the Python source download (or gt7telem-add-track if you installed with pip, Chocolatey or WinGet). It asks only for the track name and saves it so it survives upgrades.
  • Car: the same idea with add_car.py or gt7telem-add-car.

The new entry shows up the next time you open the Dashboard.
