Pinout wrong for newer 3b using gpio boot mode

On the newer raspberry pi 3b with the bmc2837B0 the gpio pins correspond to the 3b+, not the 3b.
This https://www.raspberrypi.com/documentation/computers/raspberry-pi.html#pin-assignments part of the documentation should be changed to reflect this.

The timeline of things was;

• Pi3 originally shipped with a black plastic packaged 2837.
• Pi3B+ shipped with a different packaged 2837 (with the silver heat spreader) but the same pinout
• Some newer Pi3 has been fitted with the new packaging version of 2837 but the PCB never changed.
• The PCB never changed for Pi3B so the pin description should still be the same.

So I'm unclear on what you think needs correcting? Pin assignments should be identical on all these models?

IIRC the bootrom in the BCM2837B0 (Pi3B+) was updated to offer improved (and on-by-default) booting-from-USB support compared to the BCM2837 (original Pi3B), where the boot-from-USB had to be manually enabled with OTP changes? ping @ghollingworth

The "user" GPIO pinout is indeed identical on both Pi3B and Pi3B+, but the page that @peterhassing has linked to suggests that the pins used by the bootrom (to select GPIO boot mode) changed between Pi3B & CM3 (BCM2837) and Pi3B+ & CM3+ (BCM2837B0).

So if there are indeed newer Pi3B fitted with BCM2837B0, then perhaps the pins used by the bootrom to select GPIO boot mode differ between Pi3B-with-BCM2837 and Pi3B-with-BCM2837B0 ? 🤷‍♂️

If the PCB didn't get a respin that seems unlikely. But yes, potentially? @ghollingworth would know for sure I guess.

I'd agree, the later 3B with the BCM2837B0 should be the second table...

So the second table should say:

Raspberry Pi 3B (BCM2837B0 with the metal lid), Raspberry Pi 3A+, 3B+ and Compute Module 3+
