Why not use Proxmox API?

When I first heard about this, I heard it used the Proxmox API to read from the server. I have found references to that in forked versions. I'm not so comfortable using this if it requires an agent program running on the hypervisor. Can anyone tell me a good reason this shouldn't use the API, or if there's still some hidden method to do that in the main release?

Pulse does use the Proxmox API - no agent is required for Proxmox/PBS monitoring.

In Settings → Nodes, you add your PVE cluster with either:

• API token (recommended)
• Username/password

The agent is optional and provides additional metrics:

• Host-level data (CPU temp, disk SMART, etc.)
• Docker container monitoring
• Kubernetes monitoring

For basic Proxmox monitoring (VMs, containers, storage, backups, replication), just configure the API connection - no agent needed.
