Steps to Reproduce

./gradlew clean (working perfect )
./gradlew assembleRelease (not working error occur)

Since I need to install my app via an APK for testing purpose, any workaround would be greatly appreciated

I had the same issue but on ./gradlew clean.
I've done a manual clean by deleting android/build, android/app/build , android/.gradle, .gradle and after that all worked

For me deleting only the android/app/build folder fixes this error just once, consecutive builds fail with the same error.

Yes, it still works, I've done a lot of builds since my post and it's ok for me

Same here. Reproducible on a simple template project. Building a debug version before the release makes it work. Probably something broken with the react plugin. It reproduces only on RN 80. On RN 79 is fine.
