Cookies not working for naked domains

I discovered that when I try to set a cookie for a naked domain (domain without www), the cookies are not being set correctly. After I added www, everything worked fine.
Does anybody know why this happens and if there is a fix/workaround?

I need to be able to set cookies for the naked domain.
