Supported Distributions

Hyprland Rice supports multiple Linux distribution families. Support level varies depending on how the distribution handles packages, system configuration, and desktop environments.

This page explains which distributions are supported, how they are handled, and what installation method to use.

Fully Supported (Installer-based)

These distributions are supported directly through the interactive installer (install.sh).

  • Arch Linux / Manjaro based
Uses pacman and optional AUR helpers. Recommended for the smoothest experience.
  • Fedora / Red Hat based
Uses dnf. Wayland-first experience with good Hyprland support.
  • openSUSE
Uses zypper. Supported through the installer with distro-specific handling.

Supported (Manual / Partial Setup)

These distributions are supported, but require a manual or declarative setup. The installer may not handle all steps automatically.

  • NixOS
Requires declarative configuration. A dedicated NixOS guide is provided.
  • Gentoo
Manual installation required. Suitable for advanced users.

Planned / Community Support

Support for the following distribution families is planned or community-driven. They are not officially supported by the installer yet.

  • Ubuntu / Debian based
Support will be added once packages and testing are stable.

Choosing the right guide

Before installing, make sure to follow the correct guide for your distribution:

  • Use the Installation page for a general overview
  • Follow distro-specific installation pages for detailed steps
  • NixOS users should read the NixOS guide first
