It's the same question that why HTTP use CRLF instead of LF in its protocol. As for NULL, I guess it's not friendly for display on terminal or typing |

CRLF is generally only seen on very old printers/teletypewriters, and of course on DOS/Windows. So why does Redis use it in its protocol now? I was reading the documentation on bulk strings (as linked from the
