How to use Magic Move

Magic Move animates the change from one slide to the next: objects that are on both slides glide to their new place and size, and change color, while the rest fades in or out. It's reveal.js's auto-animate.

Three circles rearranging themselves as the show moves to the next slide and back

Steps

1. Make the first slide, then duplicate it

Arrange the slide as it should look before the change.

The Animate inspector with nothing selected, with Duplicate for Magic Move marked

  1. Click an empty part of the slide, so that nothing is selected, and open the Animate tab.
  2. Click Duplicate for Magic Move. Cadenza adds a copy of the slide right after it, with Magic Move already turned on.

2. Rearrange the copy

On the copy, move, resize, rotate or recolor the objects: this is how they will look after the change. You can also delete objects (they fade out) or add new ones (they fade in).

The two slides in the slide list, and the Magic Move switch turned on for the copy

  1. The slide list shows both slides; the copy is the one that changes.
  2. Magic Move is on for the copy. It's what animates the change into this slide.

3. Play it

Play from the first slide (Shift+F5 plays from the current one) and move to the next: the objects move to their new places. Going back plays it in reverse.

Tips

  • Objects are matched because one is a copy of the other. Duplicating a slide keeps that link, and so does copying an object and pasting it onto another slide; an object you draw anew on the second slide counts as a different one, even if it looks the same.
  • To make a sequence, duplicate the copy again and rearrange it once more, as many times as you like.
  • You can also turn Magic Move on for any slide in the Animate tab, with nothing selected.
  • The time it takes is set for the whole presentation in Document > Transitions > Magic Move.
  • Builds still work on a Magic Move slide: the move happens first, then the slide's builds play one click at a time.
