thanks for catching up on that. We can merge this once CI passed.

However, I am not so sure if this is the appropriate long-term solution or rather put that in a utility function. I've seen that fastrtps does similar things and I don't really see the point in copying these defines all over our source files.

The linux-aarch64 and macOS test failures look unrelated. Since this happened on my watch as Build cop, and since it's still affecting CI jobs, I'm going to ahead and merge this.

@Karsten1987 I agree with your concern about replicating defines like this everywhere. In this case, I'm not expecting widespread use of strdup in our code base, so it doesn't worry me that much. But if we do start to see these things pile up, then we should collect them somewhere.

agreed with @Karsten1987 and @gerkey , it would be sensible to have it in c_utilities for reuse.
I'm actually surprised that this warning didn't show up before e.g. here
Give that we already define it in some places of our codebase (in the middle of a file which is even weirder) +1 for having it in this repo and reuse it where needed

Fix leak in test_logging_macros.cpp

Call rcutils_logging_shutdown() in TearDown
to avoid leaking logging internal objects.

As any change to this file makes test_logging_named
fail, this releaxes the EXACT_EQ call on
g_last_log_event.location->line_number[1]. Instead
of looking for a particular value, we test an invariant
of the field (line numbers are positive).

Finally, in test_logging_function, initialize g_counter
and g_function_called values to make sure the test will
not fail even if `--gtest_repeat=2` is passed.

Other tests are still failing when this flag is passed:

[  FAILED  ] TestLoggingMacros.test_logging_skipfirst_throttle

However, fixing those tests would require actually changing

Fix leak in test_logging.cpp

Add rcutils_logging_shutdown() every time needed
in test_logging.cpp. Remove spurious `g_rcutils_logging_initialized = false;`
preventing rcutils_logging_shutdown() from freeing memory.

Fix leak in test_logging.cpp (#153)

Add rcutils_logging_shutdown() every time needed
in test_logging.cpp. Remove spurious `g_rcutils_logging_initialized = false;`
preventing rcutils_logging_shutdown() from freeing memory.
