Upgrade with git

I just updated my Roundcube Webmail 1.7-git [GIT 20240223.1856] to the actual 1.7-git with git fetch etc. but this was not so easy. I had Gemini to help me and had to do such things as:

sudo -u www-data composer update
sudo -u www-data composer install --no-dev
bin/updatedb.sh --package=roundcube --version=any --dir=SQL/
npm install
bin/jsshrink.sh
bin/install-jsdeps.sh
# even this command, because there was no css
lessc skins/elastic/styles/styles.less > skins/elastic/styles/styles.css

Beside that first I had to add the public_html to my DocumentRoot but I wonder why, as I had 1.7 before but the public_html was not yet in my apache conf.

In the end I got it, but I think this is not the best way. Is there some doc about update with git?
Should I avoid it the next time? Then I can remove the .git directory.
