In working with the methods here (see previous PRs), I've felt the need to have fulsome documentation for class
StringIOitself, to give the methods' documentation good link targets for fuller explanations. Almost every method could link to one or more headings here: both those I've already worked on, and those to come.This is a lot, I know; but class doc really needs to be created all at once. It may be good to review piecemeal.
