GetTracks v1.3.0 — Polarsteps Integration
What's new in v1.3.0
Polarsteps Integration
Import your Polarsteps trip steps directly into a GetTracks project. Steps appear as amber camera pins on the map alongside your Strava/GPX tracks.
- Settings → Polarsteps Connection… — enter your username and
remember_tokencookie to authenticate - Add track → From Polarsteps… — browse and import trips; only steps with a description or photos are imported (skips empty location-only steps)
- Support for buddy trips — enter a trip URL or ID directly when you are not the trip owner
- Imported steps are persisted in the
.gettracksproject file and survive app restarts
Waypoint Panel
Clicking a waypoint pin or list row now opens a dedicated detail panel (replacing the elevation chart area) showing:
- Step name, trip name, and date
- Full narrative description (scrollable)
- Clickable photo thumbnails — opens a full-screen photo viewer with ← / → / Esc navigation
Map Hover Tooltips
Hovering over a waypoint pin on the map shows a floating tooltip with the step name, a preview of the description, and up to 5 photo thumbnails.
Waypoints Section
A collapsible Waypoints section below the project list shows all imported steps. Supports:
- Multi-select with Shift+click, Ctrl+click, and Ctrl+A
- Right-click → Remove, or press Del / Backspace to delete selected waypoints
Appearance Dialog
Settings → Appearance… consolidates all map visual settings in one place:
- Tile provider dropdown (OpenStreetMap, CartoDB Positron, CartoDB Dark)
- Size sliders and colour pickers for Transportation icons, Start & End Point circles, and Waypoint pins
- Changes preview live on the map; Cancel reverts; Apply persists to
~/.config/GetTracks/settings.json
Bug fixes
- Photo viewer: try large thumbnail → small thumbnail → full-resolution CDN in fallback order; show the actual error if all fail
- Photo viewer: added SSL context to avoid certificate errors on some Windows setups
- Waypoint multi-select: Shift+click no longer collapsed the selection back to one item
- Elevation chart always visible and correctly refreshed after import
Installation
Download GetTracks-1.3.0-windows-x64.zip, extract, and run GetTracks.exe. No installer required.
v1.2.0 — Multi-select, transport icons, persistent elevation
What's new in v1.2.0
Map & visualisation
- View Project button: instantly shows the full project map using stored polylines — no API call needed
- Multi-activity selection: select multiple tracks in the project list to see a combined map view and aggregated elevation chart
- Transport segments now appear correctly in the Preview & Export map overlay
- Custom QPainter silhouette icons for transport types (train, flight, ship, bus) and activity types (run, ride, hike, walk, swim, bike)
Elevation chart
- Elevation chart is now visible immediately on app open / project load
- Dynamic X-axis tick marks with "nice" step sizes (always ~5 divisions, adapts to track length)
- Elevation profiles are cached on the Activity object and persisted in the
.gettracksproject file — no re-fetch on next open - Missing Strava elevation profiles are batch-fetched in the background when viewing multi-select or full project
Authentication & tokens
- Strava token now stored in
~/.config/GetTracks/tokens.json— survives app restarts without re-authenticating - Fixed OAuth callback failing on Windows 11 (localhost resolves to ::1 / IPv6)
- Strava 401 errors now trigger an automatic token refresh; clears token and shows a friendly message if refresh fails
Import
- Add track → Transportation…: modal dialog with visual icon picker (train/flight/ship/bus), position selector with auto-fill from adjacent activities
- GPX elevation data stored directly on imported activities and persisted in the project file
v1.1.0 — Native Qt Map Renderer
What's new
Native Qt map renderer
Replaced QtWebEngine + Folium with a pure-Qt slippy map — no Chromium bundled.
- 1-finger drag to pan, 2-finger pinch to zoom, scroll wheel zoom
- Smooth fractional zoom — tiles scale continuously between integer levels, no stepping
- Tile caching: LRU in-memory + persistent disk cache (~/.gettracks/tile_cache)
- Tile layers: OpenStreetMap, CartoDB Positron, CartoDB Dark
