Tacet 1.7
Spaces. A Space keeps a whole set of tabs, pinned tabs, groups and split view, with a note to yourself. Leave School, open Coding, and come back to School as you left it.
- The icons at the bottom of the sidebar, the Space button at the top in the other layouts, Tab › Spaces, or the command bar
- ⌃⌘← and ⌃⌘→ go to the previous and next Space
- Each Space belongs to its profile, so sign-ins never cross profiles
Find pages by what they said. Tacet keeps the text of the pages you read, on your Mac only, so a sentence you remember finds the page again, with the passage. Search History or type in the command bar. Never kept: private windows, pages with a password field and sites you exclude (Settings › Shield).
Read, highlight, take notes
- ⌥-click a link to preview it over the page; Esc closes it, ⌘↩ keeps it as a tab, Side by Side opens split view
- Select text › right-click › Highlight, in five colours, with a note. Highlights come back when you return
- Library › Highlights: search them, open the page at the passage, copy or export as Markdown (Obsidian and other notes apps)
Work your way
- Opening rules (Settings › General): send a site's links to its open tab, a profile, a Space or a private window
- Unsent text: if a page reloads before you send what you wrote, Tacet offers it back. Never passwords, cards or private windows
- Automations (Settings › Automations): your own steps, run from the command bar, Tab › Automations or ⌃⌥⌘1 to ⌃⌥⌘9. No AI needed
Passkeys. Tacet can't use passkeys directly yet (Apple gives that permission only to browsers in its developer program). When a site asks for one, Sign In with Safari signs you in there with Touch ID and brings the sign-in back to Tacet.
Safer and lighter
- Tacet Assistant asks before any button it can't judge, always before sending, buying, deleting or publishing; Allow on This Page covers the rest of a page, and Stop stops at once
- A saved password goes in only on the site it was saved for, even if the page changes during Touch ID
- A site with a broken certificate is never opened over HTTP behind your back
- Safer updates, redirects checked against the local network, extension permissions remembered, everything saved when you quit
- History beyond the newest 5,000 pages stays on disk and is still searched; long conversations are fitted to the model
Install
Open the .dmg and drag Tacet to Applications. Tacet isn't notarized yet, so if macOS says it "is damaged and can't be opened", run this once in Terminal, then open it normally:
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Tacet.app
If you already use Tacet or Lumen, it updates itself.
