v3.2.5 — Wallpaper on game pages
Wallpaper on game pages. A new Wallpaper on game pages switch in Quick Access lets the wallpaper also play on a game's page (the one with the Play button), not just on Home. It's off by default, so nothing changes unless you want it.
- Game page position: a game's page shows a wide strip of art, so a slider picks which part of the video shows there (top / middle / bottom). Each game can keep its own position; games without one use the default. Video wallpapers only.
- Desktop launcher offer: after an install on a Linux desktop, the selector offers the one-click desktop launcher (it asks once).
- Thanks to MessatsuMaster on Reddit for asking.
How to update: open the new selector and re-bake (Use this). No settings reset. Installing the new zip is optional.
Downloads: Live-Wallpaper-v3.2.5.zip (plugin), video-wallpaper-selector.html (selector), decky-wall-desktop.zip (optional desktop launcher). Full details in the CHANGELOG.
v3.2.4 — Smoother moves between games
Re-bake with the new selector to get this. The plugin zip only changes its version number, so reinstalling it is optional if you already have v3.2.3. Download video-wallpaper-selector.html below (and Live-Wallpaper-v3.2.4.zip if you're installing fresh).
- No more flash of the game's own art when you move onto a game that has a wallpaper. The plugin now reacts to the move straight away instead of checking a few times a second.
- No flicker with per-game wallpapers. When Steam swaps in the next game's art, the playing wallpaper moves onto it right away. Before, it stayed on the old art until Steam removed it, then restarted.
- Wallpapers resume instantly. Moving to a game that shows its own art, or opening a game's page, now pauses the wallpaper and keeps it ready for 60 seconds instead of unloading it, so coming back doesn't reload it.
New in v3.2.3 too, if you're coming from v3.2.1: live adjusting with Quick Access open, Dim / Brightness / Zoom / Position for web wallpapers, an Export debug log button, and install status right on the wallpaper you click.

v3.2.3 — Live adjusting, web wallpaper polish, debug log
Install the new zip (needed for Export debug log), then re-bake with the new selector. No settings reset. Download both files below: Live-Wallpaper-v3.2.3.zip (the plugin) and video-wallpaper-selector.html (the tool you pick wallpapers with).
- Adjust your wallpaper live. The wallpaper now stays visible while Quick Access is open, so you can watch Dim, Brightness, Zoom and Position change as you move them. (Before, opening Quick Access could make the plugin think another game was selected and hide the wallpaper.)
- Web wallpapers can be adjusted too: Dim, Brightness, Zoom and Position now work on web wallpapers, not just video. (Fit stays video-only.)
- Smoother web wallpapers: lowering Brightness no longer runs an extra filter over the whole page every frame (same look, less work), and a web wallpaper fades in once it has drawn, instead of flashing black while it loads.
- Steadier placement: during Steam's fade between games the wallpaper now lands on the new game's art, not the one fading out, and finding the art takes far less work on each change.
- Export debug log: a new button in Quick Access saves
decky-wall-log.txtto your Desktop. Attach it to a bug report. - Selector: "Installing…" / "✓ Installed" / "⚠ Not installed" now shows right on the wallpaper you clicked, and a ✓ Installed badge marks your current wallpaper. The moving maze background is smoother, and a Background button turns it off.
- Includes everything from v3.2.2 (pulled before release): the wallpaper steps aside on a game's page, a Wallpaper on all games switch, search and list view in the selector, and a one-click Report a problem link.
Tips
- First time? Click Use this in the selector. + Library only adds a wallpaper to the per-game list; it doesn't set your main one.
- If game art goes black for a moment when you move right on Home, check the CSS Loader theme Art Hero: its "No Hero" setting causes that, not this plugin.

v3.2.2 (withdrawn — use v3.2.1)
⚠️ Withdrawn. This version has a problem baking wallpapers. Please use v3.2.1 until a fixed version is out. If you already baked with v3.2.2, re-bake with the v3.2.1 selector.
v3.2.1 — Smoother scrolling, safer bakes, truly silent web wallpapers
What's new
- The wallpaper appears right away when you enter Game Mode, even when Home opens on a shortcut or launcher tile with no background art. No more moving left/right to wake it up.
- No more restart or flicker when you scroll between games. The wallpaper keeps playing when Steam swaps a game's background art.
- New "Per-game wallpapers" toggle in Quick Access. Turn it off for one wallpaper everywhere (the smoothest option). The picker tiles then change that one wallpaper.
- Safer bakes:
- your per-game library can no longer be wiped;
- a failed bake keeps your current wallpaper;
- settings are protected if the plugin's backend is slow at boot.
- Web wallpapers are now truly silent. Background-music mode still plays.
- Quick Access sliders show your saved values right after a restart. "Reset per-game assignments" now sticks.
Install
- Updating from v3.2.0: download
video-wallpaper-selector.htmland re-bake. No settings reset. - New install: install
Live-Wallpaper-v3.2.1.zip(Decky → Settings → Developer → Install Plugin from ZIP), then bake. - Optional for updaters: installing the new zip as well hardens the on-device settings saver. Reinstalling replaces the plugin folder, so re-add your library afterwards.
Runs in Steam Game Mode on Bazzite/SteamOS (Steam Deck, ROG Ally, and similar). See the README.
v3.2.0 — In-Game-Mode picker + settings that persist
What's new
Switch wallpapers from inside Game Mode. The Quick Access panel now shows a thumbnail picker of your library wallpapers — tap one and the Home background swaps live, no Desktop trip and no re-bake.
Set a Home default or a per-game wallpaper right from the picker, using the toggle.
Your settings now survive a restart. Home default, per-game assignments, and the look sliders (dim, brightness, zoom, position) are saved on-device and restored on launch. This also fixes the long-standing issue where Quick Access tweaks reset after switching modes.
Automatic thumbnails when you add a wallpaper to your library (a poster frame for video, the wallpaper's own preview for web).
Install (two files, both attached below)
Live-Wallpaper-v3.2.0.zip— the plugin (Decky → Settings → Developer → Install Plugin from ZIP).video-wallpaper-selector.html— the desktop tool you bake a wallpaper with.
Re-bake with the updated selector to get this build. No settings reset. First launch after upgrading, set your Home default / per-game once more — older builds never truly saved them.
Runs in Steam Game Mode on Bazzite/SteamOS (Steam Deck, ROG Ally, and similar). See the README.
v3.1.0 — Folder-served web wallpapers, Video/Web/Scene tabs, web options
Two files below — grab both: Live-Wallpaper-v3.1.0.zip (the plugin) and video-wallpaper-selector.html (the desktop tool you bake with).
What's new
- Web wallpapers render far more reliably — a web wallpaper now serves its whole folder locally and mounts the real files, so complex ones that used to show black now work. The old inline method stays as an automatic fallback.
- Per-game web wallpapers get the same treatment.
- New Video / Web / Scene tabs in the picker. Scene stays unsupported (only Video and Web can be baked).
- Web options — optional fake audio, fake mouse, and a bundled music track that plays behind Home and drives visualizers.
- Cold-boot fix — the wallpaper now appears on its own when you enter Game Mode from a cold boot (no more toggling once).
Re-bake to apply. No settings reset — saved tweaks and your per-game library are preserved.
Known issue (not the plugin)
Re-baking several times in one session can make Decky vanish from the Quick Access Menu — a known Decky Loader bug with Desktop↔Game-Mode reloads. It happens with any plugin (even a do-nothing build), not this wallpaper. Restart Steam (or sudo systemctl restart plugin_loader) to recover; normal single-bake use is unaffected. The picker now warns you about this too.
v3.0.8 — Scene wallpapers are flagged, not silently hidden
A small quality-of-life fix for the wallpaper picker.
What's new in v3.0.8
- The picker now tells you when it skips Scene wallpapers. Scene-type wallpapers aren't supported (only Video and Web are), and the picker used to just hide them — so if you downloaded new Scene wallpapers, they'd quietly not show up and it looked like a refresh/cache bug. Now a note at the top of the gallery says how many were hidden and why.
Update
- This is selector-only — no re-install needed. Just download the updated
video-wallpaper-selector.htmlbelow and re-open it. The.zipis unchanged from v3.0.7 (only the version number bumped), so you don't need to reinstall the plugin.
Full details in the changelog.
v3.0.7 — Large videos load fast (streaming)
Live wallpapers behind your Steam Home — large videos are quick now.
What's new in v3.0.7
- Big speed-up for large video wallpapers. Baked videos used to be embedded whole and had to be fully decoded before anything appeared — slow, and large ones could even fail to load. Now the selector writes your baked video as a real file and the plugin streams it locally (the same way the per-game library already worked), so it starts almost immediately, even for large videos.
- Rolls in the v3.0.6 fixes: hero art no longer bleeds through the wallpaper, and the earlier large-video load failure is gone.
Install / update
- Download Live-Wallpaper-v3.0.7.zip below and install it (Decky → gear icon → Install from ZIP).
- Re-bake your wallpaper with the updated selector — that's what turns on the streaming/fast-load.
- Your saved tweaks and per-game library are preserved — no settings reset.

v3.0.6 — Hero bleed-through fix + faster first load
Live wallpapers behind your Steam Home — now cleaner and quicker.
What's new in v3.0.6
- Fixed game background art bleeding through the wallpaper. Games with custom artwork or non-Steam-game shortcuts can have two hero-image layers stacked; the plugin only hid one, so the second showed over your wallpaper. Now every game hero image is disabled while a wallpaper is active — no more bleed-through. Also clears the "Wallpaper Engine capsule shows no wallpaper" case.
- Faster first appearance after a reload. The baked video is decoded early at startup and cached, instead of only being processed once the background slot is found — so the wallpaper shows sooner.
- Capsule tiles, icons, and logos are untouched — only the full-screen hero art is hidden, and only while a wallpaper is on.
Install / update
- Download Live-Wallpaper-v3.0.6.zip below.
- In Game Mode: Decky → gear icon → Install from ZIP → pick the file. Re-bake your wallpaper to apply the new engine.
- Your saved tweaks and per-game library are preserved — no settings reset.
