1. Download and run SimSyn

Download the folder ‘SimSynEXE’ to an appropriate program file directory. Open the folder and unpack ‘scipy.linalg.cython_lapack’. Make sure the directory is /SimSynEXE/scipy.linalg.cython_lapack.pyd. Start the application by clicking the executable file ‘SimSyn_v17.exe’ in the ‘SimSynEXE’ folder.

2. Setup the system for SimSyn

So far functioning test were run for VENSIM PLE 6.4, PostgreSQL 9.4.10 and PostGIS 2.1.8 on Windows 7 64bit. SimSyn may also run with other versions on other operating systems. You are very welcome to share your experiences with me. Please contact me per email.

The following setup is recommended to guarantee flawless interaction of components:

  1. Download VENSIM PLE 6.4 for Windows from here and use default settings for installation.

  2. Download PostgreSQL 9.4.10 for Windows (64bit) from here and select the following installation setting:

  • Enable Stack Building

  • Under 'Spatial Extensions' select PostGIS 2.1.8 (64bit) (optional)

  • If PostGIS is installed:

    • Leave ‘Create spatial database’ unchecked
    • Register ‘GDAL_DATA’
    • Set POSTGIS_ENABLED_DRIVERS to common drivers
    • Enable out db rasters
