Building Endless Void (Linux)

Setup

An Ubuntu build of GameMaker 2023.4.0.84 did use to exist - but has since been removed from GameMaker's release notes, alongside all other old Beta releases. I have it archived here.

Additionally, You will need to install the libraries and programs detailed in GameMaker's Setting Up For Ubuntu page.

  • Install the version of GameMaker mentioned above.
  • Launch it to install the 2023.4.0.113 runtime. Note that you'll need to have an account for building to work.
  • Clone this repository/find the Code button on the main page, press download ZIP and extract it
  • Download UndertaleModCli
  • Run UndertaleModCli load (Path to Void Stranger's data.win) --scripts (Path to EV source)/g3man/copy-game-assets.csx

Once you've followed these steps, you can already build and run Endless Void on its own inside GameMaker. You won't be able to play levels, but it is useful when developing the UI.

Merging

Void Stranger is a g3man mod and it uses frida.py (from the g3man folder) for CLI building. You can run frida.py init to generate a user configuration file, which you must open for editing to fill all the variables.

Once the variables have been filled, you may do

python3 frida.py publish

To package the mod as a profile (in out), or

python3 frida.py apply

to apply it to the game directly.

Nix

For Nix users: This flake I wrote will help you. You'll have to add one of the 2023.4 packages, launch, (if using the Beta package, add the stable runtimes feed (instructions in that repository)) and download the 2023.4.0.113 runtime.

Proceed with the normal guide, but remember to run frida.py inside that flake's Igor devshell.
