Brief introduction to VANs:
- Definition (application-layer network overlaid over the Internet)
- Arbitrary topology (topology of VAN is independent from the topology of the underlying network - this makes it easy to use and resilient)
- VAN routers (one VAN router established at each site of the distributed application; the routers connect to each other to connect the sites)
- VAN addressing (DNS-style name that refers to a process; multi-access)
