Tesla Launcher v1.4.0

New Features

  • AI Co-Pilot (Speed Limit Recognition): Integrated Google ML Kit engine for real-time image processing. The system now uses the front camera to scan the road, detect speed limits (10-130 km/h), and immediately visualize them on the digital instrument cluster.
  • Smart Intersection Reset: The AI module now works closely with GPS. If the vehicle changes its heading by more than 40 degrees (a typical turning maneuver), the system automatically drops the AI-detected sign and smoothly reverts to the map-based speed limits.

Camera and Hardware Engine Improvements

  • Direct USB Stream Processing (Native Frame Extraction): Completely rewritten UVC camera core. The application now extracts raw frames directly from the data stream (IFrameCallback) before rendering them on the display. This ensures that both AI and Dashcam recording function flawlessly even when Android aggressively saves power and hides the camera window.
  • Camera Role Stabilization (Front / Rear): Introduced strict functional separation. The front camera now operates exclusively in the background (recording to disk and analyzing signs), while the rear camera handles immediate display output when reversing.
  • Lightning-Fast Boot & Device Memory: Fixed a "State Lag" issue in Jetpack Compose. The application reliably remembers camera assignments even after termination and physical hardware disconnection, instantly initializing the video feed upon restart.

UI Optimizations and Fixes

  • Smoother Rendering (Multi-threading): Calculations for route deviation and waypoint tracking have been moved to background computational threads. This completely eliminates camera stuttering and map freezing while driving.
  • Android Z-Index Bug Bypass: The reverse camera no longer relies on problematic animations that cause collisions with SurfaceFlinger. The camera feed runs permanently and securely beneath the user interface and is brought into view via coordinate offset only when physically required by a gear shift, eliminating black screens.

Installation & Setup Guide

1. Prerequisites

  • Android device (Tablet or Phone) running Android 8.0 or higher.
  • USB OTG adapter.
  • UVC (USB Video Class) compatible web camera.
  • OBD2 Bluetooth adapter (optional, for vehicle telemetry).

2. Installing the Application

  1. Download the TeslaLauncherV2-v1.4.0.apk file to your Android device.
  2. Open your device's File Manager and tap on the downloaded APK.
  3. If prompted, allow your File Manager to Install unknown apps (Settings > Apps > Special app access > Install unknown apps).
  4. Tap Install and wait for the process to complete.

3. Initial Configuration & Permissions

  1. Open Tesla Launcher.
  2. Upon first launch, the application will request several permissions (Location for maps and GPS speed, Bluetooth for OBD2 connection, Storage for Dashcam). Please grant all required permissions.
  3. The app will transition to the main dashboard.

4. Camera Assignment

  1. Connect your UVC camera to the Android device via the USB OTG adapter.
  2. A system prompt may appear asking for permission to access the USB device. Check "Always open..." and tap OK.
  3. A "NEW CAMERA DETECTED" dialog will appear on the screen.
  4. Select the appropriate role for this camera:
    • FRONT (Dashcam): For recording the road ahead and AI speed limit scanning.
    • REAR (Reverse): For parking assistance when shifting to reverse (R).
  5. Note: If you assign a camera incorrectly, open the app Settings, scroll to the bottom, and tap the RESET CAMERA ROLES button. Then reconnect the camera.

5. Enabling AI Co-Pilot

  1. Open the bottom dock and tap the Settings icon.
  2. Scroll down to the experimental section.
  3. Toggle Enable Experimental Features to the ON position.
  4. Toggle AI Co-Pilot (Background) to the ON position.
  5. Exit settings. The AI scanner is now active and will process signs as long as a FRONT camera is connected and the vehicle is in Drive (D) or Park (P).
